Under minimal supervision, this position is to perform cGMP level calibrations and maintain the calibration database.  Problem solving and technical troubleshooting are required. This position ensures that calibration services are being provided to various departments in a timely manner while minimizing impact on user operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Help manage a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
  • Supply monthly calibration recall notices to affected departments.
  • Communicate with the internal customer base for the purpose of scheduling and executing work and updating them on the outcome.
  • Perform scheduled and emergency instrument and system calibrations in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate and/or oversee outside contractors providing calibration services.
  • Generate necessary calibration documentation, including certificates and out of tolerance notifications.
  • Review calibration certificates performed by outside vendors and contractors.
  • Update the calibration management database to keep equipment status and recall data current.
  • Develop calibration methods based on sound metrology principles and industry practices.
  • Write standard operating procedures to ensure repeatable, quality calibrations.
  • Ensure calibration contractors have current training on procedures they perform.
  • Assist the Engineering and Facilities departments in new equipment acquisition, criticality assessment, and troubleshooting.
  • Assist with identification, acquisition, and organization of calibration standards.
  • Assist in failure investigations where instrumentation performance is involved.
  • Help train junior Metrology Specialists
  • Demonstrate commitment to Pacira’s Quality Management System per applicable standards, guidelines, practices, and policies.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma and one of the following:
    • Completion of military training (PMEL) with 4 years’ experience as a calibration or instrument technician.
    • Completion of an Instrumentation or Industrial Electronics (2-year) curriculum at a technical school with 4 years’ experience as a calibration or instrument technician.
    • AA/AS degree in a related science or engineering major with 4 years’ experience as a calibration or instrument technician.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of metrology principles.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of instrumentation and systems used in the pharmaceutical manufacturing and research environments.
  • Familiar with uncertainty calculation and analysis for calibration standards and associated measurement processes.
  • Knowledge and application of algebra, statistics, and elementary physics.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of temperature, pressure, electrical, flow, conductivity, pH, physical dimensional, etc.
  • Knowledge of cGMP.
  • Ability to read and interpret specifications, engineering documents and schematics.
  • Proficiency in using MS Office.
  • An ability to interact with a broad range of personalities and situations.
  • Effective oral and written English communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift 25 kilos (55 pounds).
  • Ability to climb up to and work for sustained periods at heights reaching 12 meters. (39 feet)
