Job Overview
The Assistant Service Manager supports the Service Manager in overseeing the daily operations of the trailer repair service department. This role involves assisting in managing the service team, coordinating service schedules, ensuring high-quality repairs, and enhancing customer satisfaction. The Assistant Service Manager will step in to lead the department in the Service Manager's absence and work closely with technicians and customers to maintain smooth operations.
Core Functions
- Team Leadership & Development: Assist in supervising and mentoring service technicians and support staff, while supporting training and development initiatives to enhance team skills and performance. Provide technical guidance, assist with troubleshooting complex repairs, and ensure proper diagnostic procedures are followed.
- Customer Service & Relationship Management: Act as a secondary point of contact for customers, addressing service inquiries, repair updates, and concerns. Support the resolution of customer complaints and help build strong relationships to encourage repeat business and referrals.
- Operations & Workflow Management: Support daily service department operations, including scheduling and task allocation to ensure efficient workflow and timely completion of repairs. Coordinate with other departments such as sales and parts to support overall business operations, while maintaining equipment and inventory oversight.
- Quality, Compliance & Continuous Improvement: Ensure adherence to safety standards, company policies, and industry regulations. Assist in implementing quality control processes, conduct inspections of completed work, and help develop and enforce best practices for service delivery. Stay current with industry trends and advancements.
- Reporting, Data & Financial Oversight: Help prepare and manage service reports, including work orders and performance metrics, and analyze data to identify trends and improvement opportunities. Assist in monitoring and controlling department budgets, including labor and inventory expenses.
Competencies and Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; relevant technical certifications or associate degree in automotive or mechanical engineering preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in trailer repair or a related field, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Strong leadership and team support abilities.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Proficiency in diagnostic tools and repair techniques for trailers.
- Solid understanding of safety standards and industry regulations.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift/carry 50 lbs infrequently.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
