Job Overview
The Mobile Diesel Technician is responsible for performing on-site diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on diesel trucks and related equipment at customer locations or designated service areas. While the primary focus is diesel repair, this role also supports trailer maintenance and repair as part of overall service delivery. This position requires strong technical expertise, independent problem-solving, and a commitment to safety and customer service while representing the Company in the field.
Core Functions
- Mobile Diagnostics and Repair: Perform on-site diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on diesel trucks and equipment in a mobile environment. This includes identifying issues quickly and completing repairs efficiently to minimize downtime.
- Trailer Maintenance and Fabrication: Support trailer repair and maintenance, including structural and component work such as doors, panels, floors, axles, and undercarriage. Perform basic welding and fabrication as needed to complete repairs.
- Preventative Maintenance and Inspections: Conduct routine preventative maintenance and required inspections, including DOT inspections. Ensure all vehicles and equipment meet safety and operational standards.
- Systems Diagnosis and Repair: Diagnose and repair a wide range of systems, including diesel engines (fuel, air, cooling, exhaust), brake and wheel systems, electrical and lighting systems, suspension and steering, liftgates and hydraulics, and HVAC systems (EPA 609 certification required for A/C work).
- Documentation and Communication: Accurately document work performed, parts used, and labor hours. Communicate clearly with customers regarding repair needs, timelines, and recommendations.
- Inventory and Equipment Management: Maintain organization and proper inventory of the mobile service truck, tools, and parts to ensure readiness for service calls.
- Safety and Compliance: Follow all safety policies and procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and ensure compliance with company and regulatory standards.
- Service Responsiveness and Professionalism: Respond to service calls promptly, manage workload independently, and represent the company professionally at customer locations. Perform additional duties as assigned by management.
Skills and Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training a plus
- 2+ years of diesel repair experience (mobile experience preferred)
- Exposure to or experience with trailer repair a plus
- Valid driver’s license required; CDL a plus
- EPA 609 certification required for HVAC work
- DOT inspection certification (or ability to obtain)
- Welding/fabrication experience a plus
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong communication and customer service skills
Physical Requirements
Warehouse/Shop Environment
- Must be able to lift/carry 25 lbs frequently.
- Must be able to lift/carry 50 lbs occasionally.
- Must be able to lift/carry 100+ lbs infrequently.
- Prolonged periods of walking and standing.
Work Environment
- Field-based role requiring travel to customer locations
- Work performed in outdoor environments, customer yards, or designated safe service areas
- Schedule may include extended hours, evenings, or weekends based on business needs
