Pharmacy Technician (Part Time / Evening Shift)

Overlake Medical Center has an outstanding opportunity for a Medication History Technician to join our team! The Medication History Technician will assist the pharmacist by performing medication history activities:

  • Collection of the home medication list by interview, information gathered from electronic sources, retail pharmacy, or primary care provider.
  • Entry of the home medication list into the electronic health record (EHR), as well as updating patient’s retail pharmacy information in the EHR.
  • Documentation of notes and relevant information associated with home medications in the EHR for the pharmacist.
  • Communicating concisely and effectively with patients, families, pharmacists, and other health care providers related to patient home medication histories.

The Medication History Technician will be cross trained in all areas of the Pharmacy to support the Pharmacists by performing such duties as: selecting the correct drugs to fill an order and preparing the doses for checking by a Pharmacist; preparing and properly labeling IV solutions; distributing controlled substances to all hospital areas, etc. 


Part Time - 0.875 FTE - 70 Hours per pay period
Late Evening Shift - Benefits Eligible

10 Hour Shifts - 3:00 PM - 1:30 AM

  • High School diploma or GED required.  Requires completion of Washington State Pharmacy Quality Assurance Commission approved pharmacy technician training program.
  • Licensure by the Washington State Pharmacy Quality Assurance Commission required. 
  • Experience in a hospital pharmacy setting preferred.
  • USP 797 and clean room training required to compound sterile products
  • Duties and responsibilities are performed in a pharmacy and office environment. Responsibilities are performed in a pharmacy environment and include standing lifting, walking, ability to be mobile, exposure to corrosives, poisonous and toxic (hazardous chemo and non-chemo) agents, and contact with soaps, cleaning agents, and chemicals.
  • Ability to communicate by telephone.  Ability to communicate verbally with staff and patients.  Standing, walking, lifting (up to 25 lbs., frequently), carrying, reaching, overhead reaching, pulling (up to 25 lbs.,  frequently).  Must be physically and mentally able to perform pharmaceutical distribution services relevant to duties of a pharmacy technician including the ability to relate to people, a capacity for calm and reasoned judgment in meeting stressful or emergency situations, and orientation to the highest quality of public service delivered with understanding and empathy.  Must be able to perform tasks requiring long periods of standing (up to and beyond 4 hours in a single time frame), walking (up to 3-5 miles per shift), and stooping, reaching, and periodic kneeling.  Fine motor, writing, computer, and phone skills required.
