Position Summary

The Investigator is responsible for thoroughly and professionally reviewing and investigating medical, operational, safety and communications concerns and complaints, both internal and external, regarding the coordination and delivery of air and land ambulance services through investigative report findings and recommendations, which are completed in a consistent and transparent manner.  The Investigator ensures early identification of issues/risks to the organization, staff and patients and provides timely responses to affected stakeholders, as required by the Performance Agreement between the Ministry of Health (MOH) and Ornge.

Responsibilities:

  • Actively investigate occurrences including requests raised by the senior management, and ensure they are documented to the appropriate standard depending on the overall Risk assessment;
  • Will lead the investigative process by collecting the relevant information, reviewing all data and analyzing the data in order to prepare a summary report of the findings;
  • Oversee the corrective/preventative action and non-conformance systems including related reporting to ensure risk based timelines are met;
  • Research, recommend and document corrective actions to be used across the organization to improve the operation;
  • Develop Monthly Investigations reports and analyze trends;
  • Review root cause analysis to ensure findings are relevant and appropriate;
  • Present data analysis and findings to a variety of audiences including technical and non-technical personnel, through graphical representation and modeling;
  • Lead the development, implementation and promote Safety related projects and initiatives;
  • Liaise and foster strong working relationships with the aviation, medical, operations and communications (dispatch) staff, paramedics, nurses, hospitals, EMS Operators, CACCs and other key stakeholders within the Province;

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Arts or equivalent Emergency Medical Services, Aviation, Dispatch experience, or law enforcement and investigative background;
  • Prior experience in healthcare, EMS, aviation, emergency service dispatch or policing.
  • Background in EMS, Aviation and/or investigative processes;
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite, Q-Pulse, Power BI, SAFTEFAST & Eventide;
  • Knowledge of policies and practices of Ornge/ MOH preferred;
  • Experience with preparing reports with relevant documentation, analysis and findings;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Understanding of Safety Management Systems principles and application;
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and facilitation skills: experience with leading meetings, delivering presentations, preparing correspondence, writing reports, etc;
  • Analytical, creative and critical thinker, ability to develop solutions and execute plans; and
  • Ability to establish and manage multiple investigations and meet deadlines;
