We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Legal Counsel to provide timely, practical, and strategic legal advice across a broad range of matters. The successful candidate will support the organization by drafting and negotiating contracts, conducting comprehensive legal research, and delivering risk-informed guidance to internal stakeholders, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulatory requirements.

  

Key Accountabilities:

Legal Advisory & Business Support

  • Provide timely, practical, and strategic legal advice to internal stakeholders across a broad range of legal matters.
  • Collaborate with business units to support organizational initiatives and ensure legal risks are effectively managed.

Contract Drafting & Negotiation

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of commercial agreements, including vendor, procurement, and service contracts.
  • Support the coordination and execution of commercial transactions.

Legal Research & Analysis

  • Conduct in-depth legal research and analysis on complex and emerging legal issues.
  • Prepare clear and concise legal memoranda, opinions, and recommendations for diverse audiences.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Support organizational compliance with applicable legislation, regulations, and internal policies.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate legal and regulatory risks, including privacy and information governance matters.

Dispute Resolution & Litigation Support

  • Assist with the management of litigation and dispute resolution with external counsel.

Knowledge Development & Continuous Improvement

  • Monitor changes in legislation and legal trends to inform business decisions.
  • Knowledge of corporate/commercial and public procurement law is necessary
  • Subject matter expertise in key areas such as privacy, or labour and employment, is an asset.


Qualifications
:

  • Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) or Juris Doctor (J.D.).
  • Licensed and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
  • 3–5 years of relevant legal experience, gained in-house or in private practice.
  • Experience with commercial contract and public procurement law is preferred.
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas is considered an asset: corporate/commercial, real estate, labour and employment, procurement, information technology, and privacy law.
  • Excellent legal drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills.
  • Strong research capabilities with the ability to synthesize complex information into practical advice.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities autonomously and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to listen actively, communicate complex legal concepts clearly and concisely.


Other Competencies:

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and provide risk-based advice.
  • High level of attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with legal research tools and standard business software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
