Reporting primarily to the Manager of Education and Clinical Simulation (with occasional direction from other Clinical Affairs leadership) the Adjunct Faculty Educator is primarily responsible for the facilitation of educational activities across Ornge Clinical Affairs programs, ensuring adherence to high standards of educational theories and practices.  

Responsibilities:

Base Hospital, Certification and Evidence Based Practice:     

  • Support the facilitation of initial certification/credentialing or entry to practice processes, including assessment and evaluation, for Primary Care, Advanced Care (Land and Flight), Critical Care Paramedics, Flight & Mental Health RNs, and Medical Fellows.
  • Perform the task of standardized role player in Clinical Simulation.
  • Support the Manager, Clinical Performance & Patient Safety and the MAC in developing evidence based clinical practice guidelines, medical directives and practice resources as required.

 

Assisting with Education Delivery:     

  • Responsibility for the delivery of the initial education content (such as but not limited to Critical Care Paramedic Program, Aeromedical Theory Program, Flight RN Program), as assigned.
  • Conduct formative and summative assessment of learner achievement or progression within a program.
  • Provide direction to Initial Education learners throughout program as needed.
  • Provide support to PPMs/CPLs, who may be delivering education content.
  • Support Medical Simulation Specialists in needs for delivery, set-up and clean-up of simulations and simulation based assessments.
  • Overall, use innovative instructional concepts and techniques to facilitate assigned learning experiences, pulling from expert backgrounds and training (CCP, RN, RRT).
  • Providing positive and safe learning spaces for all colleagues and learners
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Education Development:     

  • Provide subject matter expertise to assist with, development of  initial education and continuing professional development content and learning experiences (such as but not limited to Critical Care Paramedic Program, Aeromedical Theory Program, Flight RN Program), as assigned.
  • Support the Program Leads and accountable Faculty Educators in development of course content, incorporating clinical and academic best practices where applicable.
  • Participation in activities of mentorship and education, such as leading “train-the-trainer program sessions” for PPMs/CPLs delivering education, as needed.

 

Student Assessment Record Auditing:     

  • Review student assessment records complete in simulated, clinical, and field placement settings for compliance standards.
  • Document whether student assessment records are complete to standards set out by Accreditation Canada and Ornge Education Policies and Procedures.
  • Report non-compliance in student assessment record completion to Program Lead – IE
  • Support Faculty Educators and Program Lead responsible for indirect supervision of students during clinical and field placement by report findings identifying students who might be at risk.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student assessment records.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in a relevant field as a Critical Care Paramedic, Advanced Care Paramedic, Registered Nurse (Critical Care/Emergency), Primary Care Paramedic (for the PCP educator position only), or Respiratory Therapy.
  • Bachelor’s degree or Graduate Education/Master’s degree in related field.
  • Post-secondary education in a relevant field (i.e. Adult Education).
  • Simulation & Debriefing Education/Experience.
  • CPR, ACLS, PALS, NRP.
