Key Accountabilities:

  • Prepares and analyzes monthly, quarterly, and annual consolidated financial statements including variance and KPI analyses.
  • Researches and advises on complex accounting transactions and contracts to stay abreast of new accounting standards and regulatory changes. 
  • Leads the coordination of external and internal audits by overseeing the preparation of working papers, validating accounting methodologies and providing strategic insight.
  • Oversees configuration and maintenance of general ledger and cost centre structures within the financial reporting system (SAP).
  • Responsible for preparation and delivery of reporting to Ministry of Health to ensure adherence to the Performance Agreement.
  • Prepares presentations, reports and dashboards that provide clear insights into business performance and support data-driven decision-making.
  • Manages all taxation activities including annual returns, CRA audits, HST filings, property tax rebates and preparation of tax slips.
  • Conducts research on tax compliance and accounting standards and prepares detailed memos and recommendations.
  • Develops and updates finance policies, internal control documentation and accounting standard interpretations.
  • Oversees and mentors a dynamic team of five AP staff, providing mentorship, fostering collaboration, and driving performance.
  • Drives process improvements through the identification of opportunities to automate and leverage technologies.
  • Delivers ad-hoc financial analysis and cost tracking for special projects and initiatives.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting from a recognized Canadian educational institution.
  • Canadian CPA designation with an audit background at a Big four accounting firm.
  • Minimum of 4-5 years of progressive experience in accounting and financial analysis.
  • Experience with external and internal auditing, financial reporting, tax, and internal controls.
  • Strong understanding of PSAS and ASNPO with experience in the broader public sector preferred.
  • Proven leadership ability with experience coaching and mentoring staff.
  • Advanced analytical skills with a knack for identifying trends and translating data into actionable insights.
  • Proficiency in SAP and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.

  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and proactive in identifying and solving problems.
