JOB DESCRIPTION

Toolmaker

 

DEPARTMENT:

REPORTING TO:

    Toolroom Department.

    Toolroom Foreman.

 

 

ACCOMMODATION:

RESPONSIBLE FOR:

    Toolroom.

    N/A.

 

 

LIAISON WITH:

TRAINING:

    N/A.

    To receive appropriate training.

    To keep up-to-date records of training.

    To train others as appropriate.

 

JOB FUNCTION:

      To manufacture, assemble, disassemble, repair, and modify tool sets for Cold Heading and Rollforming.

 

DUTIES:

    Manufacture and fitting of plant and machinery subcontracted to the Toolroom.

    Project work as assigned by the Toolroom Foreman and Tooling and Preventative Maintenance Manager.

    Self certification of work in accordance with the Quality and Continual Improvement commitment.

    Submission of work for QA checking as required.

    To assist management and staff in the identification, and introduction of all reasonable measures to improve productivity, quality and working methods and conditions as part of the continual improvement and TQM programmes.

    Maintain high production rates of items with consistently high levels of accuracy and quality in line with Company requirements.

    Must work with minimum supervision within overall team structure.

 

HEALTH, SAFETY & ENVIRONMENT

    Maintain safe working practices and observe Health & Safety regulations in accordance with Company Policy & current legislation at all times.

    To ensure that The Dept maintains a high standard of Housekeeping (cleanliness of workspace and related areas) throughout.

    Maintain environmental controls according to current legislation, Company procedures and good practice.

 

VARIATION OF DUTIES:

    This specification has been drawn up to cover all the main areas of responsibility, at the present time. It should not be considered as exclusive, as it may be necessary to adjust, add or remove functions at any time, which form a natural/logical part of the overall responsibility.

SPECIAL NOTES:

    Flexibility of lunch breaks to support Heading machine productivity.

 

MEETINGS ATTENDANCE/REPORTS:

    N/A.

 

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:

    'O' Levels or GCSE Grade 1 in: Mathematics, English

    OND or ONC Engineering (Mechanical/Production/Manufacturing or equivalent)

    Nationally recognised apprenticeship.

    NVQ Level 2 or above in relevant discipline.

 

SKILLS PREFERRED:

    Accurate machining on lathes, surface and cylindrical grinders.

    Accurate marking out.

    Understanding and reading Engineering drawings to BS 308.

    Fault detection.

    Communication. (Verbal & Written)

 

 

 

EXPERIENCE:

    Relevant toolmaking and machining experience.

    Use of fine measuring equipment.
