Position overview:
We are seeking an experienced Import and Export Specialist to join our team. This role is crucial for ensuring efficient, compliant, and cost-effective movement of goods for our IMMEX operations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing all import and export activities, ensuring adherence to Mexican customs regulations, managing Carta Porte, and maintaining effective communication with vendors, customs brokers, and internal departments.
Main responsibilities:
- Customs Compliance and Documentation:
- Prepare and verify import and export documentation, including invoices, bills of lading, customs declarations, and Carta Porte.
- Ensure compliance with IMMEX, VAT, and other regulatory requirements for imports and exports, staying up to date with changes in Mexican customs law.
- Coordinate with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and other service providers to facilitate smooth customs clearance.
- Operations Management:
- Plan, schedule, and monitor import and export shipments, optimizing routes and methods to ensure timely delivery.
- Maintain close contact with suppliers, carriers, and internal teams to track shipment progress and resolve delays or issues.
- Manage documentation and processes for special programs such as Inbound shipments and temporary imports under IMMEX.
- Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Track and analyze import/export metrics, such as costs, transit times, and compliance accuracy.
- Generate monthly reports on key performance indicators and compliance status to support continuous improvement efforts.
- Identify opportunities to streamline processes, reduce costs, and improve service quality.
- Inventory Management:
- Collaborate with the warehouse and inventory teams to ensure accurate inventory tracking for goods under IMMEX programs.
- Manage import/export records and maintain up-to-date records for audits and compliance reviews.
- Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Act as the primary point of contact for customs authorities and service providers.
- Conduct periodic reviews with stakeholders to ensure operational efficiency, compliance, and customer satisfaction.
- Provide guidance and training to internal teams on import/export compliance and regulatory updates.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in International Business, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4-5 years of experience in import/export operations, preferably in the IMMEX/maquiladora sector.
- In-depth knowledge of Mexican customs regulations, Carta Porte requirements, IMMEX program, and VAT rules.
- Proficiency in using import/export software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills in Spanish and English.
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
- Experience with Inbound shipping processes and managing border crossings.
- Familiarity with NetSuite or other ERP systems is a plus.
- Experience with ‘Annex 24’ software.
- Certification in customs or international trade is a plus.
