Position Overview

The IT Field Engineer is responsible for deploying, supporting and upgrading IT infrastructure at Optimas locations within EMEA and APAC. The role provides T2/T3 support for field infrastructure.

Ideal candidates will be students of Computer Science, Engineering or closely related studies with a passion for exploring new technologies, an appreciation for customer satisfaction, and the ability work within a team. Successful candidates will have at least two years’ experience as an IT field engineer or LAN engineer.

Key Responsibilities

  • ESX server build, deployment and support
  • Creation and configuration of new virtual servers
  • VMWare vSphere administration and support
  • Windows Server support
  • Location set-up, moves and closure
  • Management of third-party vendors to support infrastructure projects
  • Replacement of network devices in partnership with the Optimas network team
  • Active Directory administration
  • Printer set-up and support
  • IBM v7000 administration and support
  • UPS installation and support
  • Support of other third-party systems used by Optimas such as Modula, Kardex, Net2, Logo & Scanfile
  • Location field visits across Europe and possibly Asia
  • Infrastructure project planning and project management
  • Proactively identifying infrastructure that requires upgrading or replacing
  • Disaster recovery documentation and testing
  • Commvault backup configuration and monitoring
  • Contribute to the IT knowledge base and positive development of the IT environment
  • Maintain records in a ticket tracking system and perform to measured service goals
  • Provide guidance and support to T1 service desk personnel

  • Knowledge of the following would be a plus: IBM zSeries, IBM iSeries, IBM pSeries, Redhat, AWS, Cisco Meraki, WAN, G-Suite, Lotus Notes, Kardex, Modula
  • Proven ability to support employees with varying levels of technical ability over the phone and in writing, including C-level executives 
  • Strong critical thinking skills that facilitate expedient problem resolution
  • Internal drive and urgency to solve problems systematically
  • Attention to detail (organizing information, being accurate)
  • Strong personal interest in technology and service
