Position overview: 
 
The Production Scheduler is responsible for the scheduling, expediting, and completion of job orders through manufacturing, and maintaining appropriate inventory and safety stock levels.    
 
 
Day-to-Day Responsibilities: 
  • Planning of job orders to meet inventory and shipment requirements, including management of VMI and MRP workstreams. 
  • Scheduling of job orders to maximize on-time performance, while minimizing downtime. 
  • Coordinating changes with the Production Leads to maximize production efficiencies while meeting customer demands.
  • Expediting job orders when production is behind schedule or customers are increasing demand. 
  • Maintain regular, open communication with the Direct Sales customer service team and distribution to ensure on-time delivery is maintained.  
  • Review Expedite Tracker and manage any Form, Roll, and Schedule operations, to ensure jobs are scheduled and prioritized appropriately. 
  • Review all open jobs and their relation to “start date”.  Update and review production progress through “start date report” and communicate to the Direct Team and Planning Manager where we are behind with jobs starting on-time and why.      
  • Collaborate with Production Leads to uncover any identified obstacles within manufacturing that affect productivity that may interfere with start dates and expedited job orders.    
  • Collaborate with Production leads on all running machines and reprioritize where necessary given any major delays with inoperable machinery. 
  • Work with Customer Service and the Supply Chain Buyer when cancellation requests arise, after the approval from the Planning Manager and/or VP of Manufacturing and follow cancellation procedure.
  • Combine jobs where possible if raw materials and tooling are available, to maximize machine uptime.
  • Ensure proper management and processing of partials/balances on job orders when heading and rolling is not complete. 
  • Ensure proper closure of completed job orders.
  • Provide production status updates to the Planning Manager.
  • Act as a liaison between Production and Customer Service to communicate production updates and job order status when needed.
Month-to-Month Responsibilities: 
  • Summary reporting of OTIF within heading and rolling functions.
  • Provide a high-level summary of productional status which would include areas of opportunity and/or what is working well that affect meeting production goals and start dates.

Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor's degree in operations, Supply Chain, or other relevant field, or equivalent work experience. 
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Production and Inventory Control, Operations, Purchasing, or Manufacturing/Industrial Engineering preferred.  Experience in material control and production planning environment desired. 
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a basic manufacturing plant. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication, and presentation skills. 
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across multiple disciplines with internal and external resources. 
  • Experience with ERP systems. 
  • Strong excel and data analysis skills. 
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills. 
  • Has a solid knowledge base for managing and maintaining appropriate inventory and safety stock levels.
