Position overview:

 

Optimas is looking for a dynamic candidate to serve as a Part-Time Staff Attorney to support its legal function in the Americas for 25 – 28 hours per week.  This role will primarily be responsible for reviewing NDAs and agreements with Optimas’ suppliers, as well as updating and maintaining our contract management and tracking system.  This is a hybrid role with an expectation that some working hours will be spent in office, while others can be performed remotely.  The schedule as to when weekly hours are to be worked is also negotiable.  This role has the potential to expand as the needs of the business change.

Main responsibilities:

 

The Key Responsibilities for the Part-Time Staff Attorney include:

 

                      Collaborate with commercial leaders on negotiation plans for suppliers in advance of contract negotiations and then participates with commercial leaders in these negotiations.

 

                      High accuracy in revising and redlining commercial agreements to reflect agreed changes during commercial negotiations.

 

                      Develop proficiency within Optimas’ contract management software and ensure all legal documents and filed and tagged within the system accurately.

 

                      Develop an in-depth knowledge of the business and keep abreast of changes in laws that affect the business.

 

                      Identify unmet current and future legal needs of the business and identify resources most cost-effective for filling the needs. 

 

                      Seek to continually improve the tools by which the Americas legal function is managed and operated by participating in best practices councils and webinars to stay current on evolving legal operations technology.

 

                      Actively participate in cross-functional continuous improvement projects throughout the company.

 

                      Regularly “teach” relevant areas of law to other professionals in the business (in ways that are scalable).

 

                      Along with the General Counsel, Americas, assure that the compliance foundation is strong and protects the ethical reputation of the company when dealing with customers, suppliers, communities and industries served by Optimas.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • A Juris Doctorate granted by an ABA accredited law school.
  • 2-5 years of experience as a practicing attorney in the state of Illinois.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Highest level of integrity and professionalism.
  • An ability to manage and prioritize work in a high-volume practice.
  • A history of working collegially and professionally in a diverse environment with peers, subordinates and clients.
  • Excellent judgment and analytical skills.
  • Experience with import/export laws/regulations and trade compliance a plus.
