About the Role

As the Logistics Manager of EMEA at Opentrons you will own shipping strategies for all finished goods across Europe and surrounding areas. This role will manage all customs, transit vendor relationships, utilize data to select shipping partners and service levels that will maximize the delivery experience for Opentrons end users. This role reports to the Director of Operations.

 

What You Will Do

  • Serve as main POC & subject matter expert for Opentrons EMEA
  • Create processes to assure compliance within EMEA
  • Audit, Develop & implement export/import compliance documentation standard processes
  • Resolve custom clearance issues regarding missing documentation (SLI, duties, taxes, VAT, HTS/ Commercial Invoices, etc.) and create standardized processes to minimize future occurrences
  • Complete documentation for freight claims, Duty Drawbacks, etc.
  • Own and manage relationships with our shipping partners in EMEA, including all major KPIs
  • Run Quarterly Business Reviews and vendor score-carding to ensure adherence to cost and business objectives
  • Analyze opportunities to reduce transportation time and warehousing costs by negotiating with carriers & agents
  • Interface with Freight Forwarders, customs brokers, suppliers and service providers to ensure consistency with defined import and export processes
  • Own daily communication with transportation providers and internal inventory stakeholders
  • Communicate issues to all relevant internal parties and ensure their participation in resolution of issues if needed
  • Address various internal and external customer questions and concerns regarding shipments, billing, status, services, carriers, and other needs
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve logistics efficiency

 

What We Are Looking For

Education:

  • BA/BS in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Industrial Engineer, or similar fields

Experience:

  • Minimum 5-7 years working experience in the transportation (import & export) industry across EMEA for parcel and freight shipments
  • Expertise in cross border shipping, customs & VAT
  • Experience negotiating contracts with TPLs, large parcel & freight carriers, such as UPS, FedEx, & DHL
  • Experience working with parcel, ocean, airfreight, LTL shipments and carriers

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Advanced knowledge of trade preferences & duty minimizing programs (Such as Article 23)
  • Compliance Knowledge – Knowledge of applicable governmental regulations to the trade lane
  • Working knowledge of EMEA regulations, General Rules of Interpretation and customs brokerage activities and INCOterms
  • Working knowledge of the EMEA transportation industry including air, ocean, and trucking regulations and documentation requirements
  • Advanced skills in Excel and other Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to use information tools to obtain the needed information to evaluate performance and access relevant data
  • Ability to think strategically and execute methodically with attention to detail
  • Ability to work in an ambiguous, fast-paced environment focused on innovation
  • Committed to learning and expanding professional and technical knowledge
  • Ability to communicate effectively in order to impress a sense of urgency and/or obtain needed information in a timely manner

Working Conditions and Physical Effort

  • Fast-paced role with a high volume of work to be completed daily
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Limited physical effort required
