Job Description:

Onset Technologies is seeking a Process Improvement Analyst to support the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) in streamlining and modernizing core business processes. The role focuses on analyzing current workflows, identifying pain points, designing more efficient and user-friendly processes, and collaborating with leadership, frontline staff, and IT teams to implement practical, sustainable solutions. The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in process improvement, Lean/Six Sigma methodologies, and stakeholder engagement, with experience in government, DMV, or high-volume service environments considered a plus.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct current state analysis, including interviews, workshops, and on-site observations with DMV staff and leadership.
  • Document end-to-end workflows, systems, handoffs, and dependencies.
  • Identify gaps, bottlenecks, and redundant steps impacting efficiency and service quality.
  • Develop future-state process maps using best practices and Lean methodologies.
  • Recommend process changes, technology enhancements, and organizational adjustments to reduce complexity and improve user satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with IT teams and Business Analysts to align process changes with system capabilities or future system upgrades.
  • Facilitate stakeholder buy-in for new processes through presentations, workshops, and clear documentation.
  • Support pilot programs or phased rollouts of redesigned processes.
  • Establish KPIs to monitor process performance and provide ongoing recommendations for continuous improvement.

 

Required Skills & Experience:

  • 5+ years in business process improvement, process engineering, or operational excellence roles.
  • 5+ years experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or other process optimization methodologies.
  • 5+ years experience in stakeholder management and facilitation with frontline staff and executives.
  • Strong problem-solving mindset with the ability to propose practical, people-centered solutions.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, Organizational Development, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

 

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • 3+ years experience in government, DMV, public sector, or high-volume service delivery environments.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working in challenging environments requiring empathy and strong relationship-building.
  • Comfortable managing ambiguity and driving clarity from complex situations.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or higher certification.
  • Proven success in process mapping, gap analysis, and redesign of complex, multi-step workflows.
