Description
Assistant Branch Manager
Middlesex Federal Savings, F.A.
Davis Square, Somerville
Full-time, onsite position
Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:15 pm and alternating Saturdays 8:15 am to 12:15 pm
Salary range $25 - $30/per hour, commensurate with experience; OT and bonus eligible
At Middlesex Federal Savings, a federally chartered community bank in Davis Square, customers are often known by name. That's the kind of bank this is. Three branches, 130-plus years in Somerville, and a fintech side that serves deposit and prepaid/debit card customers beyond the traditional branch footprint. We're looking for an Assistant Branch Manager to help run it. You'll coach a team, drive business development, and take the lead when the Branch Manager is away.
Reporting to the Branch Manager, you'll help plan, direct, and control branch operations so they run efficiently and stay in line with established policy. You'll build a positive, motivating team environment that meets branch goals and delivers a consistent, superior customer experience.
You'll also drive growth by developing relationships inside and outside the branch. That means deepening existing relationships through needs-based conversations and referrals, and building new ones through community involvement, local networking, and outbound calling. You'll lead by example, coaching staff to take part in business development and building a sales culture that hits branch targets. You'll champion digital banking too, helping customers connect with the tools that fit their needs. Digital complements the branch rather than replacing it. The branch is where customers get onboarded to digital channels, work through complex needs, and get the personal touch that builds loyalty.
Assistant Branch Manager Qualifications and Skills:
- 2–4+ years of retail banking or equivalent experience, preferably in a sales-driven environment with supervisory responsibilities. College degree preferred.
- Consultative, team-oriented sales approach with excellent customer relationship skills. Ability to establish and maintain strong community and client connections.
- Strong supervisory abilities, including performance management, constructive feedback, and team development.
- Sound risk decision-making skills, operational proficiency, and adherence to compliance and audit requirements.
- Must obtain Notary Public credentials if not already held.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and HubSpot is preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a professional, positive, and productive attitude aligned with the Bank’s customer-first approach.
- Must be able to support a 6-day branch schedule as needed, with occasional assistance at other branches.
Why You Should Apply
- Small, collaborative environment
- Competitive salary and excellent benefits package, 401(k) with employer match, pension, and paid time off
- Excellent training opportunities
Assistant Branch Manager Job Responsibilities
- Coach, mentor, and develop branch staff; build enthusiasm for sales by engaging local business owners and community members while supporting a team-based approach to customer solutions.
- Help manage sales and customer experience performance, track results, and supervise the branch in the Branch Manager's absence.
- Serve as deposit representative and internal point of contact for deposit, digital, and online banking matters; research issues, coordinate resolutions, and ensure timely follow-up.
- Maintain branch operational controls and regulatory compliance.
- Identify customer needs and recommend solutions; manage branch referral targets and connect customers with lending and merchant services partners.
- Implement sales initiatives with branch management, model banking technology use, represent the Bank at community events, and support lobby management.
