Engineering Development Technician

Acumentrics is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Engineering Development Technician to join our dynamic engineering team. The Engineering Development Technician will be a hands-on individual responsible for maintaining the engineering lab, performing intricate electronics assembly, and supporting product validation activities. This role is crucial for ensuring the smooth operation of our development and testing processes.

 

Engineering Development Technician Job Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in electrical engineering technology, electronics, or a related technical field is required
  • A minimum of 5-10 yearsexperience in a hands-on engineering technician role within an electronics development or manufacturing environment
  • Solid understanding of analog and digital electronics, components, circuits, and theory
  • Familiarity with IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001, for both through-hole and surface-mount components
  • Knowledge of function and operation of oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and environmental chambers
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, BOMs, wiring diagrams, and assembly drawings
  • Knowledge of lab safety protocols and proper handling of tools, equipment, and electronic components
  • Proficient in high-quality soldering and de-soldering of PWB assemblies, including fine-pitch surface-mount components
  • Demonstrated skill in building, crimping, and testing custom cables and wire harnesses from technical drawings
  • Skilled in setting up test stations, running predefined test procedures, and accurately recording data as part of Design Verification Testing (DVT)
  • Strong diagnostic skills to identify and resolve issues in electronic assemblies and test setups
  • Excellent skills in lab management, including organizing tools, maintaining component inventory, and ensuring a clean and orderly work environment
  • High attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in assembly and data collection
  • Ability to effectively collaborate and clearly communicate with engineering teams
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Manual dexterity for handling small components and tools required for intricate electronic assembly and rework
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision to effectively meet deadlines

Engineering Development Technician Job Responsibilities

  • Maintain and organize the engineering lab, ensuring tools, equipment, and components are properly stored and calibrated
  • Perform intricate electronics assembly and rework, including fine-pitch surface-mount soldering and cable harness fabrication
  • Support product validation activities by setting up test stations, executing test procedures, and documenting results
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues in electronic assemblies and test setups during development and verification phases
  • Interpret engineering documentation such as schematics, BOMs, and wiring diagrams to guide assembly and testing
  • Collaborate with engineers to support prototype builds, iterative design changes, and test execution
  • Ensure compliance with lab safety protocols and industry standards for electronic assembly
  • Work independently to complete assigned tasks and contribute to the smooth operation of development workflows
