Cloud Engineer - Bioinformatics

Role Summary:
The Cloud Engineer for OmniaBio will lead all cloud native environments (meaning non-SaaS applications), specifically managing the infrastructure for managing and securing client data, OmniaBio’s AI models, and software and data related to GMP automation (robotics and laboratory equipment). The person in this role will be the lead architect for ensuring our cloud native solutions are optimal for both operational latency and operational costs, will represent OmniaBio to one or more cloud-managed service provider(s), and will ensure our cloud infrastructure is performing to service-level agreements on a 24/7 basis. This role is an individual contributor.
Responsibilities:
- Oversees the health and performance of cloud systems on one or more public cloud
infrastructures. - Optimizes and manages cloud infrastructure across each cloud environment using infrastructure as code (IaC) tools like Terraform for efficient provisioning and configuration.
- Works with security teams to apply best practices and ensure compliance with policies
and regulations, focusing on secure configurations and resource management. - Works closely with management and stakeholders to define strategic roadmaps and
balance reliability, cost, and feature trade-offs. - Improves observability and defines and measures service-level objectives.
- Automates operational tasks.
- Helps partners design and implement reliable system architectures.
Qualifications:
- BSc in any science or mathematics field.
- 5+ years as a Principal or Senior Solutions Architect in a regulated environment.
- Prior experience running critical production systems in a Linux environment.
- Firm grasp of at least one modern programming language beyond basic scripting.
- Deep technical expertise in provisioning, operating, and managing distributed application
systems on a major cloud provider. - Solid understanding of web and network protocols and standards (HTTP, TLS, DNS, etc.).
- Ability to define and deploy monitoring, metrics, and logging systems.
- Experience building large applications from scratch, complete with CI/CD infrastructure.
- Experience in networking, security, hardware, or operating system performance tuning.
- 5+ years of demonstrated experience and certifications from at least one of the major cloud providers (preference for Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and Amazon Web Services).
- Experience managing Kubernetes clusters or some other container orchestration
infrastructure. - Experience with observability of large-scale distributed systems.
- Oracle or Postgres database experience a plus.
- Experience running a large service at scale.
- Must be a Canadian Citizen.
Desired Characteristics:
- Able to map cloud IT processes, including the understanding of hybrid environments.
- Automate resource management with config management and IaC techniques.
- Analyze complex distributed system challenges to drive design decisions
targeted toward reliability, availability, scalability and resiliency. - Experience with disaster recovery and migration is a plus.
- Analytical: Strong analytical skills with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
- Innovative: Continuously seeks innovative ways to leverage data and AI to solve
complex problems. - Collaborative: Works well in cross-functional teams and values diverse perspectives.
