Job Description: 

Omitron is seeking a qualified candidate to fulfill a full time Flight Dynamics Engineer position. 

This position provides Flight Dynamics expertise to NASA’s Earth Observing System (EOS) Flight Dynamics Support (FDS) team. The EOS FDS team supports maneuver operations by planning, executing, and calibrating satellite maneuvers including Conjunction Risk Mitigation Maneuvers and routine Station-Keeping maneuvers for Aqua, Aura, and Terra spacecraft. The EOS FDS team provides significant analysis support to ESMO and the associated constellations.  Additionally, the team supports requirements definition, design, configuration, and acceptance testing of multiple software tools, including the ESMO Constellation Coordination System (CCS) and the EOS Flight Dynamics Ground System. 

Specific areas of support will include: 

  • Routine flight dynamics operations support including daily product generation and maneuver planning, execution, and assessment 
  • Provide on-call operations support by responding to and providing necessary support for any off-hours events which may be required at any time 
  • Mission and constellation analysis which include mission lifetime and decommissioning, mission safety, and orbit analyses 
  • Developing and maintaining software for flight dynamics products and functions such as Maneuver Planning and Orbit Determination 
  • Presenting analysis and software reviews to stakeholders 
  • Document and communicate analysis work via technical conference papers, journal publications, as well as informal forums with the flight dynamics team and associated customers  

Some travel may be required. Off-hours support will be required.

Required Skills: 

  • Background or coursework in orbital mechanics 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and effective technical writing ability 
  • Demonstrated analytical problem solving skills 
  • Demonstrated ability to work without constant supervision 

Desired Skills: 

  • Demonstrated ability to work with flight dynamics tools such as FreeFlyer, STK, or GMAT 
  • Experience with Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) 
  • Covariance Propagation Experience 
  • Experience in Low Earth Orbit Mission operations and analyses 
  • Experience and understanding of software development lifecycle methodologies 
  • Experience with Matlab 

Required Experience: 

Applicants should have 0-5 years of professional engineering experience in astrodynamics or spacecraft-related field 

Required Degree: 

Bachelor’s in Engineering, mathematics, physics or a related field; advanced degree preferred 

Job Location: 

NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, MD with remote work available
