Job Description: 

Omitron is seeking a candidate to fill a full-time position as a Software Engineer to participate in the software development for satellite ground systems with particular focus on the mission planning system for several NASA-related spacecraft ground system projects.

The candidate shall support full life cycle development using established processes for requirements analysis, design, prototyping, coding, unit testing, integration and test, documentation, and sustaining engineering. Responsibilities include:

  • Performing requirements analysis and assessment of the MOC software architecture
  • Performing detailed design, coding, and formulating test cases for assigned software components following NASA standards and corporate processes.
  • Estimating effort for assigned tasks.
  • Participating in and presenting at design and code reviews.
  • Executing test case procedures for unit, build, regression, and acceptance testing.
  • Developing design and code review material, user guides and other system documentation.
  • Performing software configuration management and supporting quality assurance.

Skill Requirements:

Candidate must possess strong software engineering skills and excellent written and oral communications skills.  Fluency with compiled and scripting languages is required, especially C and C++.  Familiarity with Perl, Python, PHP, AJAX, Apache and web application development is a plus.  Fluency with Linux and Windows operating systems is required. Familiarity with software version tracking systems (Subversion, Git) is required. Experience with process improvement models (CMMI, ISO 9001) and NASA software engineering requirements is preferred.

Required Experience:           

Candidate must have at least 5-7 years of experience with NASA spacecraft flight or ground system software development. Experience with spacecraft mission planning and event scheduling software is preferred.

Required Degree:      

BS degree in a relevant field (Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or Physical Sciences).
