A free online program for prospective employees seeking a new and exciting career as a service technician.

  • The curriculum consists of 18 courses: four Introductory courses, ten Level 1 courses and four Level 2 courses.
  • Completion time is approximately 20 hours (students complete at their own pace).
  • The program is available in the United States and Canada.
  • The program is available in English (Spanish and French will be added in Q2 2020)
  • We believe those that show the initiative and aptitude to complete the curriculum have the potential to be valued service technicians.

Are you exploring or debating what you will do after high-school? Have you always been the mechanical type, fixing things and tearing things down to see how they work? It’s time you look into the Caterpillar ThinkBIG Program. A career as a Cat Dealer Service Technician can open doors to endless possibilities with hard work and an industry-leading education.

Ohio Machinery Co. and Owens Community College in Perrysburg, OH have paired together along with other area Cat Dealers to bring you Caterpillar’s ThinkBIG Program. Students will get Caterpillar exclusive training and education along with exciting hands-on dealer service shop experience. The ThinkBIG program has one goal, to produce high-caliber, specialized technicians, eager to hit the ground running as Cat Dealer Service Technicians.

The ThinkBIG Program consists of 5 semesters in which the students spend time at both the college campus as well as in their sponsoring location’s service shop, applying what they have learned in the classroom, and getting paid at the same time. Did we mention that the students get paid while working in the service shops? They also have an opportunity to have all of, or a portion of their tuition paid for, depending on GPA. At the end of the 5 semesters, students will have earned an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science and ready to enter the world of Caterpillar Equipment.

As a Cat Dealer Service Technician, you’ll work on some of the most advanced and hardest working machines in the world. And don’t think that your capabilities will have you limited to only the construction industry. Your expertise will always be in demand in industries as varied as agriculture, logging and forestry, power generation, construction, marine, road building, earthmoving, material handling, trucking and transport, locomotive and mining. You will build yourself into a highly skilled, technically trained, in-demand member of the worldwide Cat dealer network. As you develop the skills, experience and motivation, you will have opportunities to advance into new positions within Ohio Machinery Co. Positions such as field service technician, shop supervisor, location manager, parts department supervisor, sales await you in the future should you choose to pursue them.

Ag Technician Internship Program Description

Ag Technician Internship

The Ohio Ag Equipment Technician Internship Program in cooperation with AGCO and The University of Northwestern Ohio (UNOH) is a program developed to educate students to become top-notch service technicians. The program consists of completion of the Associates Degree in Agriculture Equipment Technology at UNOH under sponsorship of Ohio Ag Equipment. Upon graduation, sponsored students will earn a potential offer of employment at Ohio Ag Equipment.

Students go through specialized curriculum to understand all aspects of agriculture equipment, including:

  • A broad knowledge of repair and rebuild of complex machinery components
  • The ability to work with electronic diagnostic equipment
  • The operational skills of computer-based technical reference manuals

Study time in the program is divided between classroom and lab-based mechanical work on agricultural equipment being used on farms today.

Tuition Reimbursement

Tuition Reimbursement, up to $875 per session (program consists of 16 sessions), will be paid to the student at the end of each session based on the below scale: 1st Session = $875 Reimbursed (Student MUST finish session to qualify for reimbursement)

All other sessions:

  • 3.50 — 4.00 = $875
  • 3.20 — 3.49 = $788
  • 3.00 — 3.10 = $700
  • 2.80 — 3.00 = $613
  • 2.50 — 2.79 = $525

Students will pay tuition up front to University of Northwestern Ohio as required by the University.

Students will sign a Tuition Reimbursement Agreement as you are expected to work for Ohio Machinery Co. a minimum of two (2) years upon graduation.

Peterbilt Technician Internship

Ohio Peterbilt is looking to sponsor students to attend the Peterbilt Technician Institute at UTI in Lisle, IL. As a Peterbilt Technician Institute (PTI) student, you’ll receive advanced Peterbilt training on the company’s products and technologies, including Peterbilt’s legendary trucks and the PACCAR MX-13 engine. The 12-week program will help you develop in-demand manufacturer-specific skills. Tuition and housing expenses will be paid for by Ohio Peterbilt.
