JOB SUMMARY:
- The Inside Sales Representative (ISR) for Power & Energy is responsible for driving business growth through proactive lead generation, technical quoting, and customer engagement. This role supports the external Electric Power Generation (EPG) sales team by preparing accurate project estimates for generator sets (< 300kW) and proactively identifying new project opportunities using platforms such as Industrial Info Resources (IIR) and Builder’s Exchange. Expertise in understanding customer requirements and power solutions is essential to preparing accurate project estimates for our customers. This position is based at Ohio CAT’s Broadview Heights headquarters, outside Cleveland.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience & Education
- 1-2 years of experience in inside sales, quoting, or estimating in power generation or a related electrical industry (required)
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or related field (preferred)
- Technical Skills
- Proficiency in electrical systems and generators; electrical engineering concepts preferred
- Familiarity with IIR, Builder’s Exchange, Dodge, or similar construction project tracking platforms.
- Industry experience with power systems, heavy machinery, dealer operations, or Caterpillar products is preferred.
- Other Requirements
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, demonstrating responsiveness.

KEY COMPETENCIES:
- Prospecting & Lead Generation
- Collect and submit Request for Quotes (RFQs) from multiple sources in a timely manner.
- Proactively research and identify new project opportunities using IIR, Builder’s Exchange, CAT’s Govprospect.com, and other construction project databases.
- Develop and maintain a pipeline of qualified leads for standby power generation, including diesel and natural gas gensets.
- Proposal Preparation & Sales Support
- Serve as the primary quoting resource for standby generators (<300kW), including configuration, pricing, and proposal generation.
- Support EPG outside sales representatives by preparing timely and accurate quotes.
- Track quote status and follow up with customers and sales reps to ensure closure and gather feedback.
- Customer Engagement
- Communicate with current and prospective customers via phone, email, and in-person to gather project requirements and promote solutions.
- Build and maintain lasting relationships by understanding customer needs and providing value-driven solutions.
- Coordinate customer-facing activities to support sales closure and relationship management.
- Collaboration & Reporting
- Collaborate with the Power Systems team to align strategic initiatives and sales campaigns.
- Monitor and report market intelligence, competitor activity, and customer feedback to inform sales strategy.
- Maintain and expand the company’s prospect database in Ohio CAT’s CRM, ensuring accurate contact information and tracking projects and customer interactions.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; and to verbally communicate to exchange information. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet in office settings and moderate to loud in other situations, with both constant and sudden loud noises possible.
