SUMMARY:    

The Project Safety Technician is responsible for monitoring and assisting with safety related tasks on the project, supporting project team in ensuring site activities are completed in accordance with Safety Plans and regulations. Implementing the Site-Specific Safety Program for the project, ensuring that the right tools, equipment, policies, procedures and programs are in place and being utilized to assist employees at all levels to work safely.   Works directly with site team to enforce corporate, site, and legislative requirements to ensure a safe workplace for all.  This position reports to the Safety Manager and Project Manager. The expected start date is June 2024.    

     

Education & Work Experience:     
  • College degree in related field preferred
  • 1-5+ years of Safety Experience
  • Tunnel or Underground Safety Experience
  • Experience and Training in Hyperbaric Safety
  • Mine Rescue Experience
  • Required Training and Certifications
    • OSHA 10hr & 30hr
    • First Aid & CPR
    • Drug & Alcohol Awareness
    • Confined Space Awareness
    • Scaffold Erection and Inspection
    • CHST
    • CSP preferred
    • Mine Rescue Equipment Trained
    
Skills:    
  • Thorough knowledge of all relevant safety and employment regulations
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong construction site and safety knowledge
  • Experience with MS OFFICE including WORD, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Attention to detail and ability to recognize discrepancies
  • Ability to manage confidential information

 

RESPONSIBILITIES    

  • Assesses training requirements and delivers the training with the appropriate external training provider.
  • Works with the project teams to improve site specific safety plans for each project and provides the necessary tools and training to ensure that these programs are in place and running effectively.
  • Shall conduct comprehensive safety inspections of site for safety compliance.
  • Shall supply and support project staff with safety related materials for regular safety tool box meetings.
  • Shall ensure all project personnel and visitor have adequate training prior to admission to site. Shall assist with maintaining all project safety training records and reports.
  • Work with the site teams to assist sub-trades and suppliers to address gaps in their safety programs.
  • Follow up on Third party inspections to ensure that specific requirements have been met.
  • Provide daily safety report for project to Project Manager and Safety Manager.
  • Monitor and analyze site accidents and hazards to identify trends that may provide opportunities for training or improvements to current processes.
  • Represent Obayashi on various project safety committees.
  • Assist with new employee on boarding and safety orientations.
  • Develop and monitor return to work programs for injured workers and report to senior management on the status of these programs.
  • The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to those listed above and other duties may be assigned

         

OTHER:     

  • Requires navigation of active construction site
  • Frequent travel to job sites for safety inspections, meetings, training, and other Safety services
  • Able to work varied hours
