About the Department
The Marketing and Communications Department set our brand tone. They construct and magnify stories and messages to help and inspire people through running, across advertising, media, brand strategy, creative materials, video, photography, race broadcasts, editorial, brand presentations, and multiple web and digital platforms. They connect with the world's best athletes and ambassadors to deepen NYRR's mission. They leverage channels ranging from international broadcasts to screens at our NYRR RUNCENTER, individual emails to mass media, and from digital journeys to race day signage. The Marketing and Communications team connects NYRR's initiatives and innovations to the hearts and minds of our community, inspiring them to run for life.Broadcast & Video Production team oversees NYRR’s live television broadcasts, including the TCS New York City Marathon and United Airlines NYC Half, and manages the organizations video content creation with a focus on developing compelling and entertaining video content around existing events, programs, and initiatives to raise awareness, drive engagement, and attract monetization opportunities for the organization. 
 
 
 
About the Position 
New York Road Runners is seeking a detail-oriented Copyeditor to support the organization’s editorial standards across marketing, communications, and content platforms. Reporting to the Director of Editorial Content, the Copyeditor will play a key role in ensuring clarity, accuracy, consistency, and brand voice across a wide range of written materials. 
  
This role is responsible for copyediting and proofreading content that supports NYRR’s races, programs, partnerships, and storytelling efforts. Materials include digital content, marketing and operational communications, editorial content, press materials, and race-related publications. 
  
The ideal candidate is highly organized, collaborative, and comfortable working across multiple teams in a fast-paced environment, particularly around major events such as the TCS New York City Marathon. 
 
 
  
Job Responsibilities (primary and secondary duties): 
  • Copyedit and proofread content across NYRR’s digital platforms, including NYRR.org race pages, informational site content, and short-form digital content such as social media captions
  • Review marketing and operational communications—including email campaigns and member communications—for grammar, clarity, tone, and consistency
  • Copyedit press releases and other external communications produced by the communications team
  • Review and edit scripts, captions, and text elements associated with video and multimedia content '
  • Copyedit and proofread race-related publications and materials, including media guides, runner guides, event programs, and other editorial assets tied to NYRR races
  • Review printed event materials such as signage, pocket guides, and race-day communications to ensure accuracy and clarity
  • Copyedit organizational publications and communications, including the annual Impact Report, membership materials, and other community-facing content
  • Maintain NYRR’s editorial style guidelines while collaborating with writers, marketers, designers, and internal stakeholders to ensure accuracy, consistency, and timely delivery across all content platforms
  • Support additional copy writing needs as requested 
  
Job Requirements: 
 
Experience: 
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional copyediting or editorial experience
  • Exceptional attention to detail and command of grammar, punctuation, and editorial style
  • Experience copyediting across digital, marketing, and editorial formats
  • Familiarity with AP Style and ability to maintain organizational style guidelines
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Experience working in a collaborative, cross-functional environment
  • Interest in sports, running, or mission-driven organizations is a plus 
  
Education & Certifications: 
  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, English, Marketing, or a related field

Other Requirements: 
  • All staff are required to work the United Airlines NYC Half Marathon, RBC Brooklyn Half Marathon, and the TCS NYC Marathon.
