About the Department
The Strategic Partnerships & Runner Products Department consists of the Strategic Partnerships team, the Runner Products and Services team, and Professional Athlete Group.
The Strategic Partnerships team is responsible for developing revenue-generating partnerships from corporate and community-based organizations and managing those relationships. Partnerships vary from year-round engagement to specific races and events. They work closely with all of NYRR’s departments to develop programs that maximize revenue opportunities and ensure NYRR‘s partners’ objectives are being met. Our Licensing & Merchandising provides merchandising services, including staff clothing, weekly race premiums, and premiums for programs.
The Runner Products and Services team supports the training, racing and community experience of our runners—through classes, seminars, and customized training programs, and tailored customer service. The Runner Services team is the information source for our runners, serving for a conduit of information and an advocate for NYRR's runner-first philosophy both online and at the NYRR RUNCENTER. Our NYRR RUNCENTER also offers programming and serves as a hub of resources for our runners year-round. NYRR’s Charity Programs include more than 500 Official Charity Partners whose runners raise over $40 million annually. NYRR’s ITO Program operates in 100+ countries, and across six continents, and brings more than 15,000 international runners across the finish line at the TCS NYC Marathon.
The Professional Athlete group (PAG) develops and oversees programming related to the participation of professional and elite athletes, including wheelchair athletes, in NYRR events and initiatives, working closely with athletes, agents, coaches and federations while developing and implementing the recruiting strategy for professional athletes to compete in NYRR events.
About the Position
New York Road Runners is seeking a dynamic, service-orientated seasoned manager to direct a team of Full-Time Leads and Part-Time Associates that provide in-person services to our community of runners and to our constituents. The Director, RUNCenter will lead the day-to-day operations at the RUNCenter/weekend races and collaborate with stakeholders on programming and Partnership activations. The leadership responsibilities and tasks include (but not limited to) team development, recruiting, scheduling, payroll processing, internal status reporting, updating departmental policies/procedures, and resolving escalated runner issues. This position works at the NYRR RUNCenter featuring the New Balance RunHub.
Job Responsibilities:
- Direct a team of Full-Time Leads and Part-Time Associates; create development opportunities through inspirational leadership, succession planning, and enhanced training/ongoing education; optimize team efficiency with strong performance benchmarks and key performance indicators.
- Collaborate closely with Full-Time Leads and offer enhanced developmental opportunities by managing delineated areas of responsibility for Full-Time Lead group
- Full accountability for RUNCenter/weekend race day operations with a lean towards creating a high-energy, runner-friendly, efficient environment that is the hub of the running community in New York City; leads all aspects of inventory management, displays financial discipline & manages budget, and manages race prep & race logistics.
- Works very closely with Programming/Strategic Partnership teams to develop, plan, and execute weekly RUNCenter activations that impact customer sentiment and drive revenue; offers monthly status reports on performance.
- Facilitates the retail relationship with New Balance.
- Lead & optimize the race number assign/premium distribution function at RUNCenter, Marquee events and weekly races.
- Build accurate reporting structures on key performance indicators and benchmarks; regularly offers status reports to the RUNCenter team and stakeholders reflecting customer service metrics, successes, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.
- Coordinates all community, retail and space needs with key stakeholders including Marketing, Strategic Partnerships & Runner Products, Merchandising, Office Space Operations, Public Relations, and Events Development; builds a strong relationship with Programming stakeholders; builds cohesive partnership with Strategy, Planning, and Analytics team
- Resolves escalates customer service issues with a positive mindset and urgency while adhering to NYRR policies and procedures; collaborate with stakeholders as needed and will frequency respond to external runner inquires.
- Lead departmental team meetings, trainings, and orientations on a variety of topics; participate in a variety of meetings, committees, taskforces, and other related groups to communicate information and facilitate continuous improvement of programs and services.
- Process payroll for team on a bi-weekly schedule
- Publish RUNCenter shift schedule 4 weeks in advance
- Demonstrate passion and commitment to the NYRR brand and core values: excellence, teamwork, passion, innovation, service, and integrity.
- Uphold health and safety protocols and practices as outlined by the organization and New York State
- Additional tasks and responsibilities as needed.
Supervisory Duties and Responsibilities
- Effectively lead employee performance by adhering to NYRR expectations and standards
- Able to create an environment of transparency, support, development, and growth
- Must be able to thrive in an environment that is high velocity with high level of detail.
- Provide effective feedback and coaching to team including specific areas of improvement
- Prepare and execute Annual Performance Appraisals; develop goals for departments; collaborate on mutual goals for individual employees; partner with next level management when employee performance does not meet expectation
- Delegate and distribute tasks and responsibilities appropriately
- Ensure employees and staff adhere to company policies and procedures; course correct with policies/procedures are not met
- Accurately track employee attendance and submit accurate timesheets for payroll processing
- Collaborate with Human Resources as support
- Promote team culture that aligns with NYRR mission and core values
Job Requirements:
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a retail, hospitality, or fitness environments.
- Minimum 5 years of experience directly leading teams of Full-Time and Part-Time employees
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred, but not required
Skills and Attributes:
- Passion for NYRR and the brand’s mission
- Success at leading a wide array of tasks with shifting priorities; strong organizational agility and ability to thrive in high velocity work environment; must have strong sense of urgency
- Must be self-motivated, results oriented; able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Excellent troubleshooting skills and able to resolve issues with immediacy
- Candidate should be organized team player with a personable manner, excellent customer service and problem-solving skills, and should have the ability to work with a diverse group of staff and participants
- Sets the standard for excellence in customer service through leading by example and holding the team accountable
- Excellent communication and listening skills a must
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook) and Microsoft Teams.
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Other Requirements:
- This role operates in-person at the RUNCenter 5 days per week.
- Able to work weekend races as part of the weekly schedule
- Able to work a flexible schedule including morning, evening, and extended hours as needed; willingness to occasionally adjust hours to accommodate needs of the position.
- Multi-lingual skills a plus
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
Salary: 85-90k
