Position Summary:
The Deputy Chief of Staff is charged with supporting the administration and operations of the President’s Office, working closely with senior leadership to help advance the Corporation’s mission and strategic priorities. The President’s Office houses the divisions of policy and analytics, strategic operations, and external affairs and works to coordinate the various divisions of the Corporation and lend capacity, support, and leadership. This role reports to the Chief of Staff.
Responsibilities:
Strategy and Operations
- Assist the Chief of Staff and the President’s Office in identifying, developing, implementing, and communicating HDC’s key initiatives.
- Collaborate closely with the Chief of Staff to help ensure that the priorities of the President’s Office and the Corporation, more broadly, are effectively executed.
- Prepare materials to brief the President and senior team on a range of business and policy matters and provide the relevant information for decision-making.
- Serve as a liaison between the President’s Office and internal departments, as well as external agencies, City Hall, and partner organizations in support of key initiatives and priority issues.
- Support the operations of the President’s Office, including organization of meetings and events, effective prioritization and time management of meetings and other requests, management of special projects, and other administrative functions as required.
- In partnership with the Chief of Staff and President’s Office team, identify areas for operational improvements, team development, and advancement of special projects, including serving as the key liaison and administrator of the Corporation’s interagency Fellowship program.
External Affairs and Communications
- Support the development and execution of external affairs and internal communications strategies, including for public events, press, and digital media.
- Ensure the President and leadership are fully prepared for meetings, speaking engagements, and other events. Prepare written remarks, public presentations, and statements for the HDC President and other members of the senior leadership team as needed.
- Representing the Chief of Staff and President at meetings and events as required.
Required Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in a related field or, a satisfactory combination of education and/or experience that is equivalent to the above
- Minimum of seven years of experience in strategy, operations, communications, government affairs, advocacy and/or related fields in a competitive and fast-paced environment.
- A high degree of professionalism and discretion; Exceptional interpersonal, analytical, and problem-solving skills, including verbal and written communications.
- Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions and balance multiple critical priorities
- Ability to work with varied teams and personalities
- Ability to work autonomously in a self-directed manner
- Strong understanding of New York City government and affordable housing industry a plus
- Strong technology and computer skills and intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
