The New York City Housing Development Corporation (HDC) is a public benefit corporation and the nation’s largest municipal Housing Finance Agency. Position Type: Fall Internship
Office Location: NYC/Financial District
Hourly Rate: Undergrad Student- $18/hour
Note: If needed, HDC will fully support an intern’s application for credit or stipend from their school/university.
Position Summary:
The Capital Markets Intern will support the team in analyzing bond and mortgage portfolios, preparing financial materials, and assisting with data management and reporting projects. This role provides hands-on experience with financial modeling, portfolio analytics, investor presentations, and database management.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in preparing materials for investor roadshows, rating agency meetings, and other presentations
- Support the review and updating of bond and mortgage portfolio data, including interest rate modes, hedge details, loan characteristics, and counterparty exposure
- Perform basic cash flow analyses under the guidance of senior analysts
- Contribute to the creation and maintenance of internal databases used for portfolio monitoring and reporting
- Support efforts to improve data accuracy, structure, and reporting processes
Required Qualifications:
- Pursuing a degree in finance, economics, real estate, business administration, mathematics, data management, or a related field
- Basic understanding of financial concepts and an interest in mortgages or real estate finance
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills with high attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and work both independently and in a team setting
- Excellent communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (intermediate level or above preferred)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of Federal, New York State, and New York City affordable housing programs is a plus
- Coursework or prior internship experience in bond finance, real estate finance, capital markets, or mortgage operations
