NYCEDC’s Strategy Department: The Strategy department is a high-performing and versatile team that delivers solutions and enables senior leaders and departments to navigate fast-changing organizational and city-level needs. Our projects fall into four categories:

  • Strategy & change management: Assist leadership with shaping EDC vision and direction based on core principles and environmental conditions
  • Foresight & collaborative ideation: Consistently provide EDC with foresight of looming issues and support our colleagues in connecting high-potential ideas across EDC
  • Program design & execution (selectively): Design and develop interdisciplinary, cross-departmental projects, and occasionally execute for projects that are core to EDC mission
  • Special projects: Provide advice and support to EDC departments, EDC’s leadership, and City Hall for often urgent and complex efforts

Your role:

We are looking for a dynamic, Project Manager who can:

  • Manage multi-stakeholderproject teams toward a common set of outcomes and deliverables
    • Drive multiple projects forward, including managing to agreed-upon timelines and prioritizing effectively on an ongoing basis
    • Develop clear project scopes and workplans based on limited information and structure ongoing work accordingly, adapting during the project as necessary
    • Proactively keep senior leadership informed of changes to project timelines, project risks, and other key project developments
    • Collaborate effectively with teams composed of people with diverse skillsets and areas of expertise, and with members from various EDC and agency teams
    • Use quantitative and qualitative research methods to develop insightful, creative hypotheses and deliver clear, effective recommendationsto address complex problems
    • Design and execute research workplans that break down complex problems into manageable parts
    • Effectively and independently lead informational interviews with external stakeholders as a means of conducting research
    • Build and review Excel models, budgets and other financial outputs
    • Create and deliver PowerPoint presentations or memos that communicate key project findings and recommendations
  • Communicate positions and recommendations in an effective, clear and structured way with senior leadersat EDC and City Hall
    • Confidently lead project and senior stakeholder meetings and drive conversations towards discrete actions/next steps
  • Build strong relationshipswith colleagues across EDC, other city agencies, and City Hall
    • Become a key point of contact and a content expert in order to develop and manage relationships critical to project success
    • Understand and invest in learning the context surrounding City government and EDC policy and relationships, seek out relevant conferences, talks and networking events to do so
  • Contribute proactively to team cultureand support an environment of learning and belonging
    • Participate actively in team trainings, meetings, and events and suggest areas for continuous improvement
    • Proactively manage own professional development with regular check-ins with direct supervisor, informally mentor others
    • Develop areas of subject matter expertise and effectively communicate on related topics to other members of the Strategy team

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and public speaking skills
  • Comfort interfacing with senior officials and business leaders
  • Enjoy working in teams and contributing to a team environment
  • Enjoy taking on leadership opportunities

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree required
  • 2-3 years of full-time work experience
  • Strong written and oral communications and presentation skills, including demonstrated proficiency in creating clear, attractive slides and writing concise memos on project status or research findings
  • Demonstrated strategic experience setting up complex problems, looking at the big picture, and searching for insightful, creative solutions
  • Demonstrated experience prioritizing among competing needs and opportunities, managing multiple projects against tight timelines
  • Demonstrated experience working in highly cross-functional teams and working collaboratively
  • Strong quantitative skills, including basic Excel proficiency. Experience creating budgets or financial statements is a plus
  • Preference for all or some work experience in a strategic or project management role within an analytical environment
  • Preference for candidates with demonstrated interest or experience in New York City, economic development, real estate, or public policy issues
  • New York City residence is required within 180 days of hire
