Position Overview: The Assistant Vice President (AVP) is an exciting opportunity for a business- and social impact-minded, highly collaborative individual to help build out NYCEDC’s cross-sector partnerships. As part of the Partnerships’ department, the AVP will develop and manage relationships and partnerships with business, workforce development providers, and academia to advance NYCEDC’s priorities across verticals, including urban planning and community development, real asset management, and industry growth (e.g. life sciences, tech, industrial, fashion, cybersecurity, smart cities, clean energy, etc.).

While the AVP will be engaging with a diverse set of stakeholders, topic areas, and project types, his/her main area of focus will be on workforce development. Candidates will identify strategic partnership opportunities to connect EDC’s programmatic and industry initiatives with the city’s various workforce development providers. Candidates should have deep familiarity with the workforce development sector (e.g. the latest trends, key actors, etc.) and a commitment to increasing access to tech and other growing sectors for underrepresented New Yorkers.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Build relationships with workforce development service providers, accelerated training programs, continuing education programs at CUNY/CUNY Central to create awareness of EDC programs and initiatives and identify mutually beneficial collaboration opportunities
  • Design partnership frameworks and proposals based on analysis of a prospective partner organization’s mission and their objectives, capacity, and alignment with EDC’s priorities
  • Liaise with key actors to ensure alignment on workforce development activities including relevant City agencies and advocacy and professional organizations (eg: Mayor’s Office of Workforce Development, Dept. of Small Business Services’ Industry Programs, NYCETC, NYATEP, WPTI, JobsFirst).
  • Help lead on the implementation of the organization’s workforce development planning and engagement efforts in key cross-departmental projects (eg: Union Square Tech Training CenterOffshore Wind, Hunts Point Forward, Business Development Program, EDC’s Workforce Development Strategy)
  • Maintain project management plans, outlines, and schedules for partnerships
  • Be an internal advocate for EDC partners
  • Provide subject matter consultation to project teams across the organization on variety of workforce-specific topics (ie: placed-based services for neighborhood revitalization plans; industry-specific workforce/labor market intel to inform EDC’s industry development initiatives)
  • Prepare effective written materials, including memos and decks to be used in presentations to EDC senior management and staff, C-level external meetings, and public speaking engagements
  • As needed, serve as spokesperson, representative, and ambassador of EDC at workforce development public events and conferences
  • As needed, organize EDC’s participation in local and domestic events and conferences
  • Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of relevant experience in workforce development, project management, partnership creation, Graduate degree (Business, Public Policy, Urban Planning, Human Resources) strongly preferred; or
  • High School Diploma (or it’s educational equivalent) with 7+ years of relevant experience in workforce development, project management, partnership creation
  • Advanced technical and working knowledge of workforce development including program design, ecosystem structure, career pathways, and quality jobs.
  • A network of established relationships with stakeholders across NYC’s workforce development ecosystem
  • Strong ability to build relationships and consensus, comfort interfacing with senior officials and business & community leaders
  • Ability to manage multiple projects against tight timelines
  • Exceptional business writing and communications skills are required, including public speaking
  • Must be a hard-worker and a self-starter, who is both flexible and curious
  • Proven competency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience working in or with government is a plus
  • Understanding of economic development strategies is a plus
  • New York City resident is required within 180 days of hire

Salary Range: $90,000-$93,000
