Individual Giving Officer

Institutional Advancement Bronx, New York

The Individual Giving Officer manages NYBG’s relationship with a portfolio of 150+ active donors and prospects, including members of the Garden Patrons Program and President’s Circle, to facilitate and deepen their involvement with the Garden, to contribute to the Advancement team’s annual fundraising goals, and to expand NYBG’s pipeline of major gifts and planned giving donors. The ideal candidate will be a proactive frontline fundraiser and a compelling advocate for the Garden’s mission and programs in plant science and conservation, environmental education, and horticulture.

Partnership will be vital to this position’s success. As such, The Individual Giving Officer is expected to be a collaborative and strategic member of the Institutional Advancement department and the Individual Giving team. Additionally, this position supports, through actions and conduct, the Garden’s Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA) initiatives and actively helps to build and maintain an inclusive organizational culture through demonstrated values of teamwork, integrity, accountability, and respect.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Independently manage a portfolio of prospects through all phases of the giving cycle, from discovery and validation through cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Actively maintain a current body of knowledge about the Garden’s donor base, programs, aspirations and development priorities.
  • Leveraging the Garden’s robust calendar of events and public programs, plan and execute an ambitious and strategic schedule of individualized correspondence, meetings, and site visits that deepen donors’ relationships with NYBG.
  • As appropriate, promote and solicit planned gifts from donors in portfolio.
  • Maintain current and accurate records in database, tracking documents, and files.
  • Contribute to the work of the Individual Giving team and the Advancement division.
  • Support the Associate Vice President for Individual Giving and senior NYBG leadership with major/principal giving, including drafting key written communications and talking points.
  • Assist with Advancement and Garden-wide events as needed.
  • Accept other special assignments, as required.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 5 years of experience in frontline fundraising, non-profit donor relationship management, and/or sales.
  • A manifest and compelling passion for NYBG’s mission and programs.
  • Exceptional persuasive writing, proofreading, and editing skills.
  • Strong and flexible time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to plan and balance multiple projects and priorities in a dynamic environment, with both long- and short-term deadlines.
  • Care and consistency in matters of accuracy, presentation, and attention to detail.
  • Interest and capacity to work within a multigenerational and diverse-identity environment, including clients, donors, members, trustees and their families, staff, consultants, and volunteers.
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings/ weekends for events and donor visits.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Fluency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Preferences:

  • Experience soliciting planned and/or blended gifts strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge preferred.
