The Manager, Retail Experience is responsible for the oversight and management of all aspects of the NYBG Shop experience. Manage shop staff, while upholding high standards of customer service, ensure all shop spaces are clean and organized, and resolve any issues in a timely and professional manner reflective of NYBG’s standards. The Manager delegates and plans for all aspects of the Shop’s day to day operations, and personally handles them on an as-needed basis to ensure the smooth functioning of the shop.
Additionally, this position supports, through actions and conduct, NYBG’s Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility initiatives and helps to build and maintain an inclusive organization culture throughout the institution.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities: |
- Manages shop staff, including scheduling, addressing staffing concerns, escalation of employee concerns, makes recommendations for staff professional development.
- Responsible for all aspects of customer service, deliveries, shop opening and closing procedures, maintaining a clean, organized, and well-stocked shop
- Ensures proper care of all plants and basic knowledge of horticultural and non-horticultural products.
- Responsible for the execution of shop operational plans developed by senior retail management
- Works with the VP and Commerce Directors to optimize the efficiency of the shop including, markdown strategy, stock turn, in store and online promotions and in store events.
- Manages the shop’s financial accounting and proper reporting.
- Manages the POS system, cash register trouble shooting, updating inventory as needed.
- Submits work orders and monitors their completion.
- Upholds the vision, standards, and procedures for NYBG Shop and commerce staff.

Qualifications: | |
| - 8+ years retail management experience, horticulture experience a plus
- Flexibility in working weekends and some evenings
- Attention to detail and professionalism in all interactions and correspondence
- Responsible and dependable, and the ability to function as a team player in a collaborative environment
- Knowledge of POS systems, Shopify, Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word)
- Ability to move or lift up to 30 pounds

Physical Demands & Work Environment: - While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to, at minimum, work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, climb ladders, unload truck deliveries, and lift or move up to 30 pounds.

Baseline Work Schedule: 35-hours a week; Wednesday - Sunday, 9-5 and/or 11-7; occasional evenings and/or holidays required based on NYBG’s evening/events schedules.
