Botanical Garden Aide

Position Summary
The Botanical Garden Aide, under direct supervision, works on the Outdoor Gardens crew, and collaborates with other crews, in the maintenance of the outdoor gardens and collections, which includes planting and maintaining a diverse collection of plants across the landscape, including various gardens and seasonal planting and assists with maintenance of plants in Horticulture Operations Center.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with planting and maintaining perennials, annuals, bulbs, trees and shrubs in gardens and herbaceous collections across the landscape.
- Assist with the planting, watering, fertilizing and grooming of all plant materials used in seasonal plantings.
- Assist with plant propagation.
- Assist with invasive plant removal.
- Assist with snow removal.
- Help monitor and treat plant health problems in outdoor gardens areas.
- Operate small machinery when necessary.
- Other related work as required.
Qualifications
- High school Graduate or GED Preferred
- The ability to follow instructions and to work as part of a team.
- The ability to perform strenuous physical tasks in a variety of conditions.
- Minimum 6 months working with plants in gardening or landscaping position.
- Flexibility to work different schedules including Saturdays and Sundays, and overtime if required.
- Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain a license within 3 months of employment.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
While Performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to , at minimum, work outdoors in al weather conditions in all seasons, stand, sit, crouch, kneel, and walk operate lifts and other machinery, climb ladders, use hand tools and power equipment, and lift and\or move up to 50 pounds. The employee is required to perform tasks repetitively.

Baseline Work Schedule:
This position is Monday – Friday, 8am – 4pm with some weekend work required.
