Position Summary:

Assists in the management and supervision of the Capital Projects division staff and Project Managers and assists the Vice President and AVP as needed.

 

Manages capital projects from concept to completion with a primary focus on the planning, design and construction administration phases of a project. Responsibilities include but are not limited to planning, design, review of construction documents, bidding, award, and construction administration as needed.

 

Additionally, this position supports, through actions and conduct, NYBG’s Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility initiatives and helps to build and maintain an inclusive organization culture throughout the institution.

 

 

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • General assistance in planning and programming, design, bidding, budgetary, scheduling, managing construction projects, and related activities.
  • Coordination and interaction with NYBG staff, public agencies, donors, and the public.
  • Management of consultants including but not limited to architects, engineers, landscape architects and construction managers. Attendance at off-site meetings and presentations.
  • Supervision of Capital Projects staff.
  • On-site inspection and direction of construction that is typical of construction administration services, close observation of all aspects of projects from initiation to completion as needed. Management and coordination of consultants and contractors as needed.

 

Qualifications:

  • 10-15 years’ experience as a Design and Construction Project Executive with responsibilities for directing staff.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Engineering or related field required.
  • Advanced degree and LEED or SITES certification preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, bid documents and knowledge of Design and Constructing Contracting.
  • Understanding, with the ability to assess and comply with codes, local laws and permitting pertaining to New York City building standards and requirements.
  • Experience with public facilities and cultural institutions preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills: oral, graphic and written.
  • Excellent computer skills- AutoCAD, Vectorworks, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Microsoft Project, Photoshop, Illustrator, In-Design, and Adobe Acrobat software.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and collaborative skills.

 

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to, at minimum, move up to 25 pounds, ascend heights, and work under a variety of weather conditions.

Baseline Work Schedule:

9am – 5pm Monday Friday; occasional early mornings, evenings, and weekends based on projects.

Salary: Commensurate with experience within the following range $133,000-$150,300.
