Position Summary:

The Coordinator of Foundation Relations is responsible for the effective planning and operations management of the New York Botanical Garden’s Foundation Relations program, and plays a supportive role in increasing leadership-level support from private foundation funders and government grantmakers. The Coordinator will maintain key relationships with donors and Garden staff (full-time and temporary), as well as support relationship management for the Foundation Relations team and Institutional Advancement department. This position reports to the Associate Vice President for Foundation Relations.

 

Partnership will be vital to this position’s success. As such, the Coordinator is expected to be a collaborative and strategic member of the Institutional Advancement department and the Foundation Relations team.

 

Additionally, this position supports, through actions and conduct, NYBG’s Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accessibility initiatives and helps to build and maintain an inclusive organization culture throughout the institution.

 

 

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Support the Associate Vice President for Foundation Relations and members of the Foundation Relations team to produce best-in-class fundraising and donor relations results.
  • Cultivate, solicit, and steward dynamic donor and prospect portfolio, personally raising $200,000 or greater in new commitments annually and increasing by 6% year-over-year for the next five years to support the Garden’s strategic planning emphasis.
  • Prepare written documents, including proposals, reports, letters, acknowledgements, and other materials as required.
  • Draft Garden-wide proposal templates and standard boilerplate language.
  • Conduct prospect research and draft research profiles and biographies of key individuals at various funding organizations.
  • Maintain active and accurate use of relevant constituent relationship management (CRM) systems, document tracking, and filing systems.
  • Assist in staffing Garden fundraising events, as required.
  • Provide operations and administrative management support for the Foundation Relations team

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum two years of experience in fundraising or programs management, preferably for a non-profit or university setting.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills. 
  • Propriety, thoughtfulness, excellent judgement, and discretion in communicating with donors and colleagues at all levels, both verbally and in writing.
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills, sharp attention to detail.
  • Ability to balance multiple projects in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. 
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings/weekends for events and donor visits.
  • Driver’s license required.
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel and PowerPoint preferred.
  • Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge preferred.
  • Writing samples to be requested during the interview process.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required.

 

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to, at minimum, work outdoors under a variety of weather conditions, and occasionally work under moderate or loud work conditions.

Baseline Work Schedule:

Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm

Salary: Commensurate with experience within the following range $65,000-$69,000
