Position Summary:

 

The Assistant Manager, Digital Media reports to the Senior Content Manager and manages various marketing, digital, and media-based initiatives at NYBG. This role produces digital marketing content developed with new audiences and social trends in mind. The Assistant Manager, Digital Media must understand paid media strategy, as well as the role that digital media and online editorial content play in the life of a cultural institution. The Assistant Manager, Digital Media also takes a special focus on NYBG’s education divisions—Adult Education, the School of Professional Horticulture, and Children’s Education—as well as science and earned income outreach and content development. The position partners with the AVP’s of Education to articulate their marketing goals and oversees the paid marketing tactics; planning and development of owned media such as the upkeep of NYBG web assets, associated SEO, email, social media, and partnerships and outreach for NYBG Education. The Assistant Manager, Digital Media works with the Director of Digital Communications to manage the schedule and creation of institution-wide email and leads the workflow and distribution of printed ad materials and tracks budgets as needed. They must have the ability to multitask and produce a high volume of work with great attention to detail, while balancing multiple deadlines. The position is responsible for developing relationships with external partners and vendors and will also be assigned other digital marketing tasks as needed.

 

 

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

 

  • Work in collaboration with content managers across each Education department to drive registrations for courses and programs.
  • Support relationships with outside advertising agencies to develop, implement, optimize and report on media plans.
  • Develop the scheduling, creation, review, and distribution of email through Dotdigital, ensuring messaging follows NYBG Brand Guidelines, and is up-to-date with accessibility WCAG best practice and privacy policy.
  • Create new digital content that provides search engine and Google AI optimization for the NYBG.org website, including seasonal and audience specific blogs.
  • Analyze and report on effectiveness of digital and direct mail campaigns, including working with registration offices to review registration and customer reports, and implementing and tracking mailing plans.
  • Coordinate Education division photography including image sourcing for a variety of website and advertisement uses, processing and collecting imagery in collaboration for marketing use.
  • Provide occasional in-person support and public engagement during on- and off-site Education events.
  • Work with the Creative team to manage and execute print projects for the various Education divisions, including advertisements, catalogs, and signage.
  • Develop, film, edit, and star in social content and paid media that promotes Education, Science and Exhibition offerings at NYBG, with skill in video and audio editing and visual storytelling.
  • Oversee budgets for digital and print advertising for each Education department.
  • Identify and support relationships with professional communities for promotional outreach, and leverage opportunities for cross-promoting educational offerings to existing NYBG constituents.
  • Provide content development and production support for the science-focused NYBG podcast, Plant People.
  • Work with NYBG Science to translate new discoveries and initiatives into blog posts that capture the interest of the everyday visitor and garden supporter, and optimize SEO and AI search for the website.
  • Develop content for Marketing emails, social media, and the NYBG.org website, and provide support for other departments in these areas as needed.
  • Support social media content engagement during operating hours, and for assigned special events and weekend celebrations outside operating hours as needed.
  • Support the development and implementation of new sources of revenue for Education, including Special Ticketed Event opportunities based on popular digital content or online and audience trends.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years of Marketing, Digital Media, Communications
  • experience, or similar preferred but not required.
  • Ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously, and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational and verbal communication skills with extreme attention to detail.
  • Experience with analytical and database management a plus.
  • Continued interest in best practice and innovations in digital communication and social media.
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud and Microsoft Office.
  • Basic audio/video editing from iMovie, Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, or comparable a plus.
  • Experience in HTML, CSS, Content Management Systems, Dotdigital, WordPress, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, InDesign, and other web-based publishing platforms preferred.

 

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to, at minimum, sit while working at a computer for long periods, lift and move up to 25 pounds, and spend time developing content outdoors during a variety of weather conditions.

Baseline Work Schedule:

9am-5pm Monday-Friday. This role is eligible for NYBG’s hybrid schedule. In addition, occasional availability for evening and weekend events, off-site programs, and  remote digital support on weekends is required.

 

 

Salary is commensurate with experience within the range of $60,000-$65,000
