Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated Patient Care Technician Educator to lead our initiative aimed at nurturing the talents of high-achieving high school seniors. In this role, you will spearhead a comprehensive Patient Care Technician (PCT) training experience, immersing the students in the world of healthcare. Over the span of two semesters, you will provide them with the knowledge and skills needed to excel in their journey toward becoming valuable members of the healthcare team.
Upon successful completion of the program, these students will be qualified for employment opportunities within the Nuvance Health system immediately following their high school graduation
Responsibilities:
The Professional Practice Specialist: Patient Care Technician (PPS:PCT) is the clinical expert in practice related to the role of the Patient Care Technician. The Professional Practice Specialist: Patient Care Technician will work under the direction of the AVP of Nursing Professional Development and Nursing Professional Development managers and align with practice recommendations from the NY and CT State Boards of Education. The PPS:PCT will also exemplify eight characteristics identified in the HPNA Nursing Assistant Scope and Standards of Practice (Observation, Team Collaboration, Outcome Identification, Planning, Implementation, Monitoring Outcomes, Quality of Care, Collegiality, Ethics).
Population Served for this role will be the Patient Care Technician of Nuvance Health as well as Students as defined by need.
1. Works alongside the AVP of Nursing Professional Development (NPD) and the NPD managers to develop, conduct, and evaluate programs that meet the educational needs of PCT staff / student specific to scope of practice, goals, priorities, and population.
2. Acts as a liaison with local high school(s) and other local programs on clinical training and shadowing oversite for a patient care technician program.
3. Uses effective strategies for changing clinician and interdisciplinary team behavior to encourage adoption of safe practices and innovations in the practice of the patient care technicians.
4. Oversees competency assessment processes for the patient care technician aligning them on a system level as able.
5. Identifies and prioritizes emerging needs in collaboration with PD and nursing leadership through assessment and evaluation of current system processes and the role of the patient care technician.
6. Participates, within scope, in processes that may be necessary in changes in organizational structure or goals, accreditation criteria, legal mandates, or advances in diagnosis, treatment and patient outcomes related specifically to the role of the patient care technician.
7. Provides educational consultation on the role of the patient care technician at the local and organizational level through participation in committees, councils, and administrative teams as necessary.
8. Uses knowledge of legal and ethical issues relevant to the role of the patient care technician in both NY and CT create both new programs and training.
9. Proficient in EMR documentation systems to including consultation of build, analyzing documentation standards, re-design of documentation requirements, and assessment of documentation skills of the patient care technicians.
10. Maintain and Model Nuvance Health Values. Demonstrates regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
11. Performs other duties as required.

Education and Experience Requirements:
�Minimum5 - 10 yearsas a certified nursing assistant or patient care technician.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements:
�Proficient in Microsoft Office / Adobe
�Knowledge and proficiency in EMR Documentation Systems
�Knowledge in DOH (NY and/ or CT) scope of practice for the unlicensed assistive personnel.
�Knowledge of Joint Commission accreditory requirements for the Division of Patient Care Services
�Comfortable in delivering group presentations
�Proficient in EKG testing
License, Registration, or Certification Requirements:
- Certification as a nursing assistant preferred.
�Certificate in BLS.
