Security Officer
Description
Summary:
The Norwalk Hospital Security Officer performs vital daily tasks supporting daily hospital operations by responding to Code/Alerts, dealing with aggressive/violent patients, visitors, staff and others, maintaining a safe and secure environment, and reporting any hazards and vulnerabilities identified through proactive and routine patrolling of the facility interior and exterior.
Responsibilities:
1. Deter crime, provide order, and control patient and visitor behavior that is deemed unacceptable, while maintaining the highest standard of customer service.
2. Detect suspicious activity and watches for criminal acts and/or hospital policy infractions. Assesses the safety and security of hospital property through routine designated rounds and random patrols as required.
3. Respond to all incidents or service requests as dispatched, and provide assistance and support as needed. Incidents include, but are not limited to, patient valuable inventory, morgue admissions and releases, door unlocking and facility lock-up, escorting Law Enforcement and conducting patient watches, and meal break coverage for fellow Officers.
4. Respond to all emergency Code and Alerts, and provide assistance and support as needed
5. Investigates lost, stolen, or damaged property.
6. Investigates injuries, assaults, and other incidents with patients, staff, & visitors.
7. Interacts with and provides information to various law enforcement agencies.
8. Operates specialized equipment (cameras, radios, etc...) through routine performance of duties.
9. Morgue services (including admits and releases).
10. Oversees patients considered high risk. Performs Safety Searches of patients and their property for injurious items. Applies restraints, monitors and documents combative patients safety while in restraints.
11. Performs range-of-motion checks on restrained patients. Communicates to Nursing/Clinical staff changes in patients condition.
12. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.

14. Demonstrates regular, reliable and predictable attendance.
15. Performs other duties as required.
Other Information:
- State of CT Security Officer license preferred.
- Preferred training/certification in related fields such as OC Spray, Baton, Taser, Handcuff, tactical driving, etc.
- Preferred training/certifications with Safety/Security related organizations including OSHA, NFPA, FEMA, IAHSS, IFPO, ASIS, etc.
Working Conditions:
Manual: significant manual skills/motor coord & finger dexterity
Occupational: Significant occupational risk
Physical Effort: Very Heavy effort. May exert up to 50 lbs. force
Physical Environment: Significant exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc.
