Summary:
Provides quality technical and customer service to all customers. Performs immunohistochemistry of new procedures and trains junior technologists. Participates in laboratory performance improvement program.
Responsibilities:
1. Provides quality technical and customer service to all customers in compliance with the expectations set by the organization.
2. Performs computer accessioning and proper specimen labeling, insuring instrument specimen integrity.
3. Assists Pathology Residents and Pathologists as needed in Frozen Section & Gross Room as needed.
4. Performs routine Histology procedures necessary to prepare slides for examination by Pathologists,
including but not limited to embedding, cutting, mounting and staining.
5. Performs special stains in accordance to quality standards.
6. Initiates work procedures and performs all quality control, instrument maintenance & documentation
required by accrediting agencies.
7. Communicates effectively and appropriately with coworkers, pathology residents & pathologists to assure the quality & integrity of the service.
8. Maintains a safe environment for one's self and coworkers to comply with all regulatory agencies & with hospital's & Laboratory's Safety Programs.
9. Assists in maintaining section's inventory to ensure proper levels of reagents, controls and disposables.
10. Performs Immunhistochemistry of new procedures.
11. Trains junior technologists and assists in implementation of new procedures. Assists in updating & writing procedures as assigned by the section's Technical Specilaist. Participates in section's & laboratory
Performance Improvement Program.
12. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
13. Performs other duties as assigned.
Education: ASSOCIATE'S LVL DGRE
Other Information:
This position requires a minimum formal education of Associate Degree and minimum of three years job-related experience.
Required Skills: Language skills(both verbal and written), detail orientated, independent self-starter, ability to multi-task, manual dexterity.
Criteria Desired (Not Required):
Histotechnologist certification preferred, or eligible.

Manual: significant manual skills/motor coord & finger dexterity

Physical Effort: Medium to Heavy effort. May exert up to 35 lbs. force
Physical Environment: Some exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc.
