Monitor Technician
Description
Summary:
This position performs duties directly on a nursing unit or remotely in a central unit and is responsible for the continuous monitoring, interpretation, communication, and documentation of cardiac rhythms and rhythm components.
Responsibilities:
1. Demonstrates knowledge of cardiac rhythm interpretation by meeting requirements of a 4 hour class, accompanying exam, and 40 hours of h&s on training with a qualified monitor tech.
2. onitors and reviews patient information to determine baseline cardiac rhythm & prior variances.
3. Demonstrates competency in telemetry lead placement for accurate cardiac rhythm analysis.
4. Notifies nursing staff when leads are off patient or of incorrect lead placement. Assists staff with patient skin preparation and correct lead placement as necessary.
5. Notifies Registered Nurse of cardiac rhythm or rhythm component changes, and cardiac rhythm variances that indicate myocardial ischemia or acute myocardial infarction. If primary RN isn't available, escalates using appropriate chain of comm&.
6. Maintains current knowledge of the technical operation of the central monitoring station.
7. Identifies and troubleshoots routine technical problems with the central monitoring system & initiates biomedical repairs as necessary.
8. Maintains all telemetry equipment and telemetry supplies inventory.

10. Protects patient confidentiality and sensitive data at all times.
11. Supports new ideas and promotes positive change. Remains calm & helpful during stressful situations.
12. Documents patient periods off telemetry for showers, tests, and procedures.
13. Analyzes cardiac rhythm and records measurements, calculations, & interpretation of patient record in accordance with established protocols.
14. Attends staff meetings. Reads/signs 100% of meeting minutes.
15. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
16. Performs other duties as assigned.
Education: HS GRAD/EQUIVALENT
Other Information:
Required: Maintain competency for Basic Life Support (BLS). Successful test score on cardiac rhythm interpretation test.
Minimum Experience: six months
Desired: Acute care experience and prior completion of dysrhthmia recognition course preferred.
Working Conditions:
Manual: significant manual skills/motor coord & finger dexterity
Occupational: Some occupational risk
Physical Effort: Sedentary/light effort. May exert up to 10 lbs. force
Physical Environment: Some exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc.
