Summary:
The Assistant Manager of Environmental Services plays a critical leadership role in managing the day-to-day operations within the Environmental Services Department in a 364 bed hospital. This position ensures a safe, clean and compliant environment, while working collaboratively with union staff and Hospital Leadership, to support a culture of Respect, Safety and Quality.
Responsibilities:
1. Manage and coordinate daily operations of the EVS Department, ensuring high standards of cleanliness and efficiency throughout patient care and ancillary areas.
2. Provides direct leadership to a unionized workforce, maintaining compliance with collective bargaining agreements and fostering positive labor relations.
3. Participates in disciplinary processes, grievance responses, and labor- Management discussions in accordance with union contract provisions.
4. Supports hiring, onboarding, training and performance evaluations for the EVS staff, this to ensure clarity in job expectations and equitable treatment.
5. Conducts daily quality inspections and environmental audits to ensure cleanliness, infection control, and regulatory compliance across all hospital units.
6. Collaborates with Infection Control, Facilities, Nursing, and all other ancillary departments to ensure effective coordination of cleaning protocols and support services.
7. Maintain current knowledge of Joint Commission, OSHA and CDC standards, and ensure all departmental practices align with these requirements.
8. Track supply inventory and equipment usage, recommending cost-effective purchasing solutions while ensuring readiness for daily and emergency needs.
9. Monitor staffing levels, assignments and timekeeping / payroll, to ensure cost-effective labor management while respecting union rules around shift coverage and overtime.
10. Support implementation of departmental policies and procedures, identifying opportunities to streamline operations and improve service delivery.
11. Address patient and staff concerns related to cleanliness and service, following up promptly and professionally while coaching staff as needed.

13. Demonstrates regular, reliable and predictable attendance.
14. Performs other duties as assigned.
