Summary:
Performs laboratory tests relevant to the section(s) in which they are assigned including quality control testing following established criteria. Responsible for performing routine and non-routine activities pertaining to laboratory testing and the reporting of results. Performs moderately difficult to complex tasks. Performs assigned analytical testing procedures in an accurate, precise and timely manner. In addition, performs clerical and computer related activities with a degree of supervision dependent on experience and training.
Essential Responsibilities

- Performs other duties as required
- Performs all tests relative to the section(s) in which they are assigned, following all laboratory policies and procedures and ensuring that the specimen is acceptable for testing
- Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results, correct the problems encountered and immediately notify the supervisor.
- Adheres to STAT and Critical Result reporting procedures
- Performs, troubleshoots and monitors all QC and QA functions in their assigned section or instrument. Reacts to and documents QC failures and follows the established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the acceptable levels of performance.
- Documents all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and all maintenance performed
- Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the established performance specifications
- Ensures that reagents/test fits have received, expiration, and opened dates.
- Follows all PPE requirements, CLIA, OSHA, and safety guidelines as described in the safety manuals
- Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections as required.
- Maintains clinical competency and current professional knowledge
- Assists with the training of department employees and students.
- Maintains the confidentiality of employees and department information with no infractions
REQUIREMENTS - Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in MT or equivalent
- One-year Medical Technology experience preferred. New grads considered
- NYS Medical Technologist License
PREFERRED:
- previous microbiology experience preferred
Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements:
- Excellent Customer Service Skills
- Strong Computer & Writing Skills
- Ability to Multitask and work under pressure
License, Registration, or Certification Requirements:
- NYS MT License
