Histology Aide 1 - FT - Day
Description
Summary:
Maintains the integrity of all surgical specimens to aid in the Pathologist's diagnosis of disease.
Responsibilities:
- Accurately registers & accessions specimens, verifies patient ID, physician demographics and clinical information pertinent history to ensure accurate information for testing & billing.
- Processes specimens in compliance with all applicable procedures & protocols observing all safety & OSHA standards.
- Performs daily section set up to ensure each area is operational & that all areas are clean & in working order including but not limited to accessioning, main lab, grossing rooms, frozen room and waste room.
- Precise quality control is documented for multiple areas of the laboratory.
- Communicates with physicians' offices & clinics, handling requests for information.
- Performs clerical tasks as needed including computer data entry, faxing reports, answering phones, & filing slides and/or blocks & requisitions accurately.
- Maintains inventory of supplies, placing orders when needed to ensure uninterrupted workflow & avoiding costly rush orders. Communicates to the supervisor any orders not received.
- Puts away supplies as they are received and documents as required.
- Distributes slides to the appropriate pathologist or department.
- Achieves the organizations established expectations regarding quality of service, teamwork, customer service, safety, education, & staff development.
- Cleans excess paraffin from embedded blocks and puts them in order.
- Verifies that cases are complete, tracks, and sends to appropriate pathologist or facility.
- Stainer, changing, operating, monitoring and cleaning.
- Melting blocks to prepare for microtomy.
- Maintains and models the organization's values
- Performs duties as required.
- Has predictable and reliable attendance
Education: HS GRAD/EQUIVALENT
Other Information:
- Requires a minimum formal education of High School Diploma
- Associate's Degree preferred.
Working Conditions:
Manual: significant manual skills/motor coord & finger dexterity
Occupational: Some occupational risk
Physical Effort: Medium to Heavy effort. May exert up to 35 lbs. force
Physical Environment: Significant exposure to dirt, odors, noise, human waste, etc.
