Summary:
- This role assumes responsibility and accountability for the function of scrub technicians assisting with the nursing care activities in the surgical services environment. Individuals apply learned principles in coordinating activities directed at assisting the surgical team in implementation of care. Population served is consistent with the policies and philosophies of the Nursing Department and Administration, which includes neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and Geriatric patients.
Responsibilities:
- Consistently collects and utilizes available data necessary for the proper preparation of the surgical suite for specific surgical procedures.
- Consistently demonstrates an application of basic and current knowledge to perform assigned functions.
- Demonstrates a knowledge and understanding of sterile/aseptic techniques.
- Performs proper sponge, sharps, and instrument counts according to policy and procedure, demonstrated by a lack of occurrences.
- Maintains a safe surgical environment, assuring overall cleanliness of the surgical suite, proper placement of supplies to insure a safe traffic pattern, and verifies sterile processing through validation of integrity of sterile packaging.
- Maintains patient confidentiality and provides safe patient care through clear communication and collegial working relationships.
- Demonstrates knowledge of current trends and practices in the health care field, utilizing available educational materials, and professional development opportunities.
- Utilizes materials and equipment in a safe, therapeutic, and cost effective manner. Consistently checks all equipment for working order and reports any unsafe condition.
- Participates and complies with the results of quality assurance audits and findings.

- Demonstrates regular, reliable and predictable attendance.
- Performs other duties as required.
Job Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent
- License, Registration, or Certification Requirements: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, MUST be a Certified Surgical Tech.
- Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements: basic understanding of Anatomy, Physiology, and Medical Terminology; basic computer skills, i.e. MS Outlook.
