Summary:
Responsible for assessing, developing, planning, implementing, and evaluating educational programs for perioperative personnel to maintain competency, continuing education, and leadership development at Danbury and New Milford Norwalk Hospital.


Requirements
Minimum 5 years in specialized nursing field.
Master’s Degree in nursing required.
Knowledge in DOH (CT) nursing practice requirements
Knowledge of Joint Commission accreditation requirements for the Division of Patient Care Services. Experienced in delivering group presentation
Current and unobstructed Connecticut Registered Nurse License
Certificate in BLS, ACLS, and PALS provider status required.
Instructor in AHA training in one area (BLS, ACLS, PALS – must be obtained within 6 months of hire)
Nursing certification preferred
Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for assisting in the assessment, development, coordination, presentation, and evaluation of educational program needs within the Department of Perioperative Services. Core responsibilities include new employee orientation, continuing education, supervision of nursing students, residents, and orientation for a variety of student populations.
2. Deliver a systematic orientation program for new employees. Creates an educational tool and resource-specific to the level of staff oriented. Coordinates education for existing staff members. Responsible for program development, evaluation, and constant revisions to reflect the changing dynamics of the Surgical Services environment. Responsible for customizing education to meet individual learning needs.
3. Participates and contributes to departmental policy and procedure development and quality assurance review.
4. Requires self-direction and assumes responsibility for the advancement of nursing practice by developing new approaches, methods, or techniques to patient care practice issues in accordance with clinical standards. Collaborate with other members of the health care team as required.
5. Provide educational resources for perioperative educators. Liaison with schools for program development and clinical rotations for perioperative students.
6. Act as a clinical resource for perioperative educators using evidence-based standards and professional guidelines, assisting in the development of critical thinking skills.
7. Assist perioperative educators in the evaluation of current practice through quality and process improvement measures. Facilitate the development and interprets clinical practice procedures, standards, goals, and philosophies.
8. Facilitate and monitor perioperative personnel compliance with organizational policies and procedures and regulatory and accreditation standards. Develop standardized network service-line policies to meet the needs at all campuses).
9. Mentor team members as required. Pursue professional growth and participate in a professional organization.
10. Manage all aspects of educational projects to include fiscal responsibility.
11. Assist perioperative personnel in assessing their individual learning needs and styles. Develop a perioperative preceptor class, administer periop 101, and develop certification prep programs. Maintain perioperative employee educational data, records, licensures and certification records as required.
12. Coordinate and partner with academic institutions for student experiences and develop graduate affiliations. Help educators facilitate student learning experiences in the perioperative setting.
13. Performs other duties as assigned.
