Summary:
Maintains the integrity of all surgical specimens to aid in the Pathologist's diagnosis of disease.
Responsibilities:
1. Accurately registers patient specimens.
2. Accessions specimens, verifies patient ID, physician demographics, clinical information and pertinent history to ensure accurate information for testing & billing.
3. Processes specimens in compliance with all applicable procedures & protocols observing all safety & OSHA standards.
4. Achieves the organizations established expectations regarding quality of service, teamwork, customer service, safety, education, & staff development.
5. Performs daily section set up to ensure each area is operational & that all areas are clean & in working order including but not limited to accessioning, main lab, grossing rooms, frozen room and waste room.
6. Maintains precise quality control is documented for multiple areas of the laboratory.
7. Communicates with physicians' offices & clinics, handling requests for information.
8. Performs clerical tasks as needed including computer data entry, faxing reports, answering phones, filing slides, blocks and requisitions accurately.
9. Maintains inventory of supplies to ensure uninterrupted workflow & avoiding costly rush orders.
10. Puts away supplies as they are received.
11. Verifies that cases are complete, tracks, and sends to appropriate pathologist or facility.
12. Operates, changes and maintains the stainer and cleans excess paraffin from embedded blocks and puts them in numerical order.
13. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
14. Maintains and models the organization's values.
15. Demonstrates regular, reliable and predictable attendance.
16. Performs other duties as required.
Education Skills Experience:
- Requires a minimum formal education of High School Diploma
- Associate's degree preferred.
