HEMATOLOGY DEPT

 

Summary:

To supervise the daily operations of the Hematology section of the laboratory to ensure uninterrupted workflow, availability of appropriate blood products in a timely fashion, accurate and timely results and maintain improved customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities:

 

1. Under the Medical Director and Laboratory Manager, supervises the daily operations of assigned section to insure quality service & customer satisfaction.

2. Provides input in employee selection. Mentors and supervises Hematology staff; evaluates staff performance & competency. Oversees their educational development.

3. Ensures section compliance with all reg. requirements actively by reviewing publications/standards for CAP and CT DOH.
4. Coordinates section participation in approved proficiency programs as required by regulatory agencies.
5. Develops and implements new procedures/policies. Reviews/revises all policies & procedures at least annually.
6. Researches and analyses new processes, vendors, blood/tissue suppliers, equipment, reagents & computer systems. Provides information for preparation of capital equipment budget.
7. Designs, analyzes, and maintains the laboratory information system. Responsible for all changes including design, analysis, testing, validation, implementation & training with the support of the LIS team. 
8. Functions as a technical consultant to laboratory staff, residents and physicians. Responsible for resolution of technical problems. Represents Hematology at hospital committees.
9. Reviews section event logs and with the Medical Director, develops & monitors corrective actions. Establishes monitors to improve quality service. Participates in the KPI program.
10. Holds regularly scheduled staff meetings to update and inform staff.
11. Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.

14. Performs other duties as required.

 

Education: BACHELOR'S LVL DGRE

Other Information:

 

 Required: Bachelor's Degree. Minimum Experience: five years

 Certification: Medical Technologist, ASCP (or equivalent).

 Criteria Desired (Not Required):

 Knowledge of instrument troubleshooting (experience).  Strong written and verbal skills.
