- Supervises the day-to-day operations of the Anatomic Pathology section to ensure efficient workflow, timely and accurate results, and continuity of service.
- Provides direct supervision to assigned staff, including scheduling, time-off approvals, performance management, coaching, counseling, employee development, and participation in recruitment and selection activities.
- Facilitates effective communication across the department through regular staff meetings, huddles, and collaboration with internal stakeholders to support operational alignment and team engagement.
- Ensures departmental compliance with applicable regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards. Supports quality improvement initiatives, monitors compliance activities, and participates in audits and corrective action planning as needed.
- Leads and supports the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of departmental workflows, systems, procedures, and operational processes to enhance efficiency, quality, and service delivery.
- Maintains subject matter expertise and technical competency in Anatomic Pathology operations and serves as technical resource to staff and clinical partners. Troubleshoots operational and technical issues and supports resolution.
- Oversees staff onboarding, technical training, competency assessments, and ongoing education to ensure staff maintain required knowledge, skills, and regulatory competencies.
- Monitors departmental inventory, supply utilization, vendor service coordination, and budget-related activities to support efficient resource management and operational goals.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Biological Sciences, or related field
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive laboratory experience in Anatomic Pathology
- Current certification as Medical Technologist, Histotechnologist, Pathologists’ Assistant, or equivalent certification through ASCP or other recognized accrediting body required (or certification eligibility, if applicable)
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience
- Knowledge of Anatomic Pathology laboratory operations, instrumentation, workflows, and regulatory standards
- Strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to lead, coach, and develop a diverse team
- Strong organizational, prioritization, and decision-making skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced clinical environment
- Proficiency in quality improvement and process optimization methodologies
