Summary:
The Education Trainer is an important member of the Nuvance Health team. The Education Trainer is responsible for the design, development, and execution of the training curriculum to support our internal teams’ training needs in relation to the operation of the coding criteria, guidelines, and quality in order to create an internal pipeline for new talent for hard to fill coding positions.
Responsibilities:
- Develop curriculum and all supportive learning management training materials to enhance teaching sessions.
- Conduct needs assessment and identify performance gaps and implement training best practices to ensure alignment with department needs.
- Lead training sessions with Team Members to ensure accurate coding assignments.
- Ensure compliance through education that is consistent with all applicable Federal, State, and/or County laws and regulations related to coding and documentation guidelines for CMS and Commercial Payor Guidelines. Maintains knowledge of Medical Terminology, Anatomy, and Physiology, ICD10,CPT®, Coding guidelines, and methodologies.
- Expert knowledge of DRG, APC, NCCI, LCD, NCD reimbursement methodologies and expertise in the coding of diagnoses and procedures to accurately apply diagnosis and procedure codes.
- Create and develop reports to identify training needs/outcomes. Provide education sessions for new Team Members
- Develop policies to reflect changes and guidelines from CMS, AMA, commercial payors, new and deleted codes, and communicate to staff and vendor partners.
- Coordinates and facilitates current coding education and training using a wide variety of methods and media to deliver content, including onsite observation and training, printed materials and technical reports, PowerPoint presentations, teleconference, and videoconference platforms.
- Assist teams with focus reviews for ICD-10-CM and ICD-10 PCS and Evaluation and Management (E&M) and CPT®, code assignment.
- Deliver training to providers in collaboration with the Clinical Documentation Improvement team as needed.
- Perform special projects and internal coder assessments as needed.
- Collaborate with other departments to enhance the total provider experience.
- Assists in aspects of logistics surrounding training programs, ensuring rooms and materials are available for training sessions as needed.
- Become familiar with, and stay abreast of, new training methodologies and resources.
- Identify the importance of documentation on code assignment and the subsequent reimbursement impact.
- Align conduct with AAPC and/or AHIMA’s Standards of Ethical Coding and the Company’s Code of Ethics and Business Conduct and support the Company’s Ethics and Compliance Program.
Other information:
- Certified Coding Specialist (AHIMA), or Certified Inpatient Coder (AAPC)
- Minimum Experience Required: 5 years
- Experience in DRG Validation
- Experience teaching/providing education in a healthcare setting desired

Salary Range: $31.25-$58.05
