Pathologist – Danbury and Norwalk Hospitals (70 and 50 miles from New York City) Per Diem

Nuvance Health is seeking a per diem Pathologist to join our group of 24 board-certified pathologists with a broad range of expertise and extensive clinical experience at our Danbury and Norwalk Hospital campus in Danbury, Connecticut; about 70 miles outside New York City (lower Fairfield County Connecticut).

The testing volume across the system is over 4 million test results per year (inclusive of approximately 50,000 surgical pathology cases). Nuvance Health proudly hosts a pathology residency program at our Danbury Campus and we train PA students from Quinnipiac University at our Norwalk and Danbury campuses. Nuvance Health is a teaching affiliate of the University of Vermont, which confers ranked academic appointments. We have a growing cancer institute that brings us interesting and varied cases.

This is an employed position with Nuvance Health Medical Practice. We offer a competitive hourly rate and eligibility to participate in a 401k plan.

Established in 1885, Danbury Hospital is a not-for-profit community hospital providing Greater Danbury area residents convenient access to exceptional care. Danbury Hospital has 371 beds and is a Level II Trauma Center with approximately 70,000 ED visits per year. As a teaching hospital, we are associated with University of Vermont College of Medicine, Yale University School of Medicine, Ross University School of Medicine and the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine. Our employed Medical Practices include 900+ physicians and advanced practice providers, serving a geographically broad region throughout western Connecticut and eastern New York.

Danbury, Connecticut, located on the border of New York State, is about 70 miles northeast of New York City and 60 miles west of Hartford, CT. As part of the greater NY metropolitan area, the city of Danbury enjoys both proximity to New York City culture and access to a wide array of outdoor activities, including hiking, biking, fishing and boating in state and regional parks and preserves. Boston, New York City, New Haven and Hartford are easily accessible via train or car.

Norwalk Hospital, a Level II Trauma Center, is accredited as a Stroke Center and certified to provide Emergency Angioplasty for heart attack.  Established in 1893, Norwalk Hospital is a 366 bed, not-for-profit community hospital providing Fairfield and Westchester County residents convenient access to exceptional care, close to home. As a teaching hospital, we are associated with University of Vermont Larner School of Medicine, Yale University, Ross University, American University of the Caribbean, Sacred Heart University, UConn, Quinnipiac, and Western Connecticut State University among others.
Astride a hill with a commanding view of the Long Island Sound, Norwalk Hospital serves a varied and attractive region of Southern Connecticut. The hospital is just minutes from beautiful places to hike, swim, sail or walk along the beach. Connecticut Magazine recently named South Norwalk as the “hottest” nightspot between Boston and New York City, with a plethora of theater groups and restaurants to choose from. New York City is easily accessible by car or train.

Job Summary:

Anatomic and Clinical Pathology

Job Requirements:

  • MD or DO and completion of AP/CP Residency training
  • Board Certification in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology
  • Pathology experience preferred but new grads are welcome to apply
  • Subspecialty interest or Fellowship preferred
  • Excellent communication skills with a strong desire to interact with clinicians and laboratory staff, proficiency in the performance of frozen sections, cytology interpretations (both GYN and non-GYN), rapid on site cytology assessments, and occasional autopsies.
  • CT State and NY State Medical Licenses
  • Willingness to work at as needed at Danbury, Norwalk and New Milford campuses as needed.

Salary Range: $225/hr.
