Summary: 
The Legal Coordinator plays an integral role on Nuvance Health’s Labor and Employment Team (“L&E”) in the Legal Department. Reporting to the Director of Immigration & Legal Operations (“Director”), the Legal Coordinator is responsible for providing operational and litigation support to the L&E team. Responsibilities include managing the L&E team’s workflows, preparing litigation reports and documents, managing the claims and litigation database, monitoring legal deadlines, assisting with the L&E team budget, and providing administrative support to the attorneys and the Director. The Legal Coordinator will provide timely, effective, and practical support to the team on a day-to-day basis in a stimulating, collegial, in-house setting, under the direction of the Director. This position is based in Danbury, CT, with opportunity to work remotely on a “hybrid” basis (part remote, part in office).  
 
The successful candidate must be highly organized, have excellent communication and writing skills and have a strong ability to multi-task. Knowledge of legal operations and litigation management is preferred.
 
Critical Responsibilities: 
   
  • Support L&E attorneys and Director with defense of employment-related litigation, administrative actions, and complaints.
  • Manage employment litigation and claims database and reporting system. Recommend improvements to the system.
  • Prepare litigation and claim reports for L&E attorneys, Chief Legal Officer and senior leadership, with oversight from Director.
  • Manage litigation deadlines and L&E team calendar.
  • Assist attorneys with scheduling of witness interviews, depositions, etc. and resolve scheduling conflicts and other questions that arise.
  • Support attorneys with discovery process, including collect and review relevant documents from internal clients, support e-discovery and electronic searches, aid in document retention and management, and liaise with outside counsel regarding the same.
  • Hands-on role in communicating and coordinating with internal clients and external counsel on active litigation and claims management matters.
  • Prepare documents for attorneys for depositions, witness interviews, hearings, etc.  
  • Manage litigation document preservation process. Assist with drafting litigation preservation hold notices with attorney supervision.
  • Draft legal documents, using department templates for Director or attorney review, including settlement or separation agreements, contracts and other agreements with Director & attorney supervision.  
  • Coordinate insurance coverage for ongoing litigation matters and communicate with insurance carrier, external counsel and L&E attorneys regarding the same. Assist with monitoring insurance coverage and performing audits.
  • Manage intake of, collect documents for, and coordinate responses to third-party requests for information and subpoenas. 
  • Assist with legal billing matter management, including invoices from external counsel, by performing matter setup, updates, and reports.
  • Prepare training decks for presentations by L&E team.
  • Coordinate payments for confidential settlement, separation or other agreements, with oversight from Director.
  • Assist in coordination of team projects, including monitor project progress, provide detailed updates to Director, project manager and/or stakeholders, drive collaboration and communication among project team.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of patient, employee, department and proprietary information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned consistent with a legal support role.
 
 
Education and Experience Requirements:  
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in a legal support role, preferably in healthcare or labor and employment law firm
  • Associate degree or equivalent work experience
  • Exceptional organizational and multi-tasking abilities.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, judgment and ability to collaborate.
  • Self-starter. Ability to work on projects independently.
  • Superior communication skills. Speaks and writes professionally in all situations.
